DX10 and the right GPU choice

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I intend to build a new PC with Intel I7 3770K and OC 4,7 GHz.

I wonder if Nvidias GTX670 will be sufficient for FSX DX10 or GTX 680 is the more adequate one

and added value.

There are mentioned in the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide for FSX some CPU/GPU combinations, but could not find the right answer.

Any recomendation is appreciated.

Wulf

Hi Wulf: No right answer for almost every question within the flightsim.!!

Not wholly trustworthy, as no-one (in the general benchmarking-gaming community) uses FSX as their benchmark, but here is a good site for comparing dozens of GPU's with several factors added in, plus - expanding the site will take you to CPU comparisons, too. I would choose the 670 over my 580 in a heartbeat, but the 680 is Da MAN right now. It's only $$$$$

Hi Paul,

thanks for the G3D GPU benchmark:

GTX680 vs. GTX670 +5% better performance, +30% higher cost.

I think the 670 is the right choice for me.

Hi Wulf,

Paul is so right!

Just to add one person's experience, I have an i7 2600k, running at 4.9GHZ, and had a GTX570. The 2600 was running full out with high-ish temperatures, and the GTX at or near 100%.

Not wanting a major upgrade which would start with a new mobo, I agonised over a new graphics card rather than more cpu power.

I took the plunge at Christmas for a GTX 680 4GB Classified (I know - the cost is horrendous).

The result, for me, has been reduced temps on the CPU, the 680 romps along around 50-60%, and FSX runs smoothly with (touch wood) no problems at all.

Good Luck, Jim

Thanks, Paul. Greatly appreciated. Desperately needed!! :)

BTW, have you been everywhere? I was resurrecting PFE, after not using it for a long time, and guess who's name appears in Dave Leesley's tutorial?

Sorry. I haven't really added to the topic, have I?

Best Wishes, Jim
