February 16, 201313 yr I run a FSX rig with a GTX670 in surround with 3 monitors. Now, this may be normal, but the views in the "surround" monitors are blurry. It's like a perspective has been applied. Is this normal or can I do something about it? Many thx JJ Jason Jackett
February 17, 201313 yr Author Surely must be a few folks with nVidia surround set ups can comment. I just really need to know if this is normal. Thanks JJ Jason Jackett
February 17, 201313 yr Hi JJ, It's not normal, but very hard to say without knowing how powerfull your system is, lots of info has been posted over the years about blurry textures. one I did save was here; http://www.simforums.com/forums/solved-blurry-terrain_topic45007_post269460.html#269460 Not related to surround but gives a lot of info. hope this helps, Ron.
February 17, 201313 yr Author Hi Ron Many thanks for your comment and the link, I will do some reading. I suppose what I find strange is that the screen in the middle is picture perfect but the screens on each side look like some perspective had been added into the mix (hence blurring the overall those images). I intentionally run FSX very conservatively after fiddling with settings for months. It's a i5 over-clocked to 4.5mhz with the GTX670 and an SSD for operating system and FSX install. I get close to 20fps at Aerosoft's EHAM and regularly over 40+ fps in flight with UTX and REX running in Europe. JJ Jason Jackett
February 17, 201313 yr My understanding is that what you describe is normal in any triple-monitor display setup (not just Surround). I, too, am using NVidia Surround to span 3 monitors and only the center monitor shows correct perspective. The side monitors' images appear to be somewhat 'stretched'.
February 17, 201313 yr I believe there is not much one can do, you can try a smaller FOV, it may help a bit. Its FSX trying to map a 3D world onto your flat, 2D displays. Even on a single monitor you have stretching on the edges, but so little you dont notice. But on 3 at a very high resolution, it becomes very obvious. Alex
February 17, 201313 yr I run it on three 60" monitors. To get rid of the "off" perspective I run three separate windows on top on the main view, each scaled to 50degree FOV and set up using windowmaker for the .flt file Using that there's no stretching on the side panels, though you'll see a performance hit. February 17, 201313 yr Author Many thanks all for your replies. I understand now. It's not an absolutely terrible effect but I wondering whether there was something fundamentally wrong. JJ Jason Jackett
February 18, 201313 yr here is part 1 of a video about using 3 screens, gives a basic understanding of how zoom and aspect ratio effect the 3 screens. I run around 5040 x 1200 using the older 16 x10 monitors and the stretch is minimal. but when going to 6000 x 1080 it gets too much. Have a look, Ron.
February 18, 201313 yr Author Hi Ron Many thanks for the link to the video. It explained the exact issue in that I had set up Ezdok cameras at 50% zoom. Once they've all been adjusted to 100% the screens on each side are much much better. The PMDG737NGX in fullscreen is excellent but I think I have a problem with the Aerosoft Airbus Extended in fullscreen. Windowed it runs well but in fullscreen I get the same effect I have when I open the 2d panel in the PDMG. Frame rate drops and I have the spinning mouse/windows pointer. Oh well, one thing fixed and another to fix. The story of FSX! Many thanks again. JJ Jason Jackett
