8GB Kingston HyperX Performance,

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560,

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit,

Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X,

Microsoft FSX Acceleration,

I'm currently getting 18 to 20 fps in VC mode but that is after tweaking the heck out of it ... the ******* Tweak helped a lot (http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html) and reading this (http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.html) this also points you in a ton of different directions (http://support.madcatz.com/CombatPilot/Knowledgebase/Article/View/219/107/fsx-install-configure-optimize-and-other-help-links).

One thing you could consider is upgrading to 8GB of RAM and applying the HighMemFix = 1 tweak ... also, I looked up your system and it is running a stock 2.5GHx ... might want to do a bit of overclocking to 3.0GHz plus (but this is an advanced topic and can result in damage if done improperly).

Your graphics card might also be an issue, but I am inexperienced making recommendations there as MSFX is much more processor bound that it is graphics card bound. In order to take advantage of a new graphics card (I upgraded mine from a 9800 to a GTX 560 and applied a whole new set of tweaks to push as much processing as possible to the video card.

The absolute best solution for you is to buy a new machine from (http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/) ... a good rig can cost as low as $900 but this may not be an option for you.

Hope this gets you on your way ... other's will chime in if I got something wrong (rest assured of that <s>)

It's close to my machine. I get at Flightbeam SFO 10-15 FPS. Get about 30 in the air. I do not recommend spending $900 on a new machine. After 2 years it will be out dated. U can get a decent one on amazon for $400 plus a graphics card.

What does the HighMemFix = 1 tweak? And do I need to upgrade to the 8ram. Before I do this tweak?

Aaron Brazda.

HighMemFix is a tweak that allows MSFX to access the 8GB of memory I have on my machine. There is no purpose in using it if you do not have more than 4GB of memory.

Getting one on Amazon is an option but only if you can get a warranty with it (which you probably can). Also, the people that I pointed you to have three year warranties and overclock protection plus the capability of upgrading to anything you want. The reason I like these guys is that they use cases and MoBo's that are available on NewEgg. This means that you are purchasing a platform that is as expandable as you need it to be. Two years down the line you want another MoBo and a faster PC ... drop it in your new case. Want a bigger power supply ... same concept. When you buy standard PCs from manufacturers, their cases are not necessarily upgradeable ... they put these things together for the lowest possible price ... which limits your upgrade options.

For example, this PC

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_III/ ($899)

uses this case

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119264

I doubt you will get the same upgrade possibilities from an Amazon.com computer. If you do decide to get another computer, spend some extra money for a solution that gives you upgrade capability, which takes care of the concern that the PC wil be out of date in six months ... not true in this case.

As is, no upgrades? I see a lot of Options List.

Also I have a few Questions about link you gave me "http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html". I have five Questions but I'll ask three now.

1: How many 'CPUs/Threads'

show in task manager?, Is that while fsx is running and I've setup Everything to my normal gameplay or when fsx isn't running?

2: (Intel CPU's only)

Is hyperthreading active?, how do I know if hyperthreading is active?

3: What type of Video

card do you have?, Which Category would my graphic card be under?

Aaron Brazda.

thanx CT! Very Helpful.

Question 1: Gateway says your processor is a Quad Processor ... therefore ... the answer if 4

Question 2: You can tell if Hyperthreading is active by launching Windows Task Manager and going to the Performance page ... if you see four windows at the top the answer is no ... eight ... the answer is yes.

Question 3: GeForce 9 series or equivalent

As far as the new system I recommended goes here is what I would do:

  • 6 port USB Expansion module ... you can never have too many USB ports.
  • 1 TB data hard drive ... install MSFX on this drive (probably will be drive D) ... this places MSFX outside of Windows 7 User Access b***sh** ... also, install all of your sceneries here as well, this makes sure that MSFX is not fighting with the OS for access to drive C.
  • Performance Tuning protection plan
  • Maximum Enermax 120mm case cooling fan ... you can never have too many case fans.
  • Pro Overclocking
  • Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) ... if you have a Windows 7 install disk laying around (make sure you can activate it on the new machine) you can use that ... otherwise you have to pay M$ for the OS.
  • Notice that these guys give you three years of warranty protection as well as lifetime support!

Ok the last two Questions about that link are,

1: Would you like the

vSync FIX applied?, what does this mean?

2: Optimization

preferences?, what dose this mean?

Sorry you Probably think I'm super dumb.

Aaron Brazda.

No vSync ... Normal ...

Nope ... you would only be super dumb, in my humble opinion, if you DIDN'T ask important questions like these.

Ok I filled all the Questions on that page out And when I click begin, it brings me to a page that says "Your request could not be processed, Reason: No file was sent" Have you had that problem?

Aaron Brazda.

You have to send the program your current fsx.cfg file ... if you are using Windows 7 it will be located here:

C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

It will modify your existing one and make it available for download

Rename your current fsx.cfg file fsx.cfg.b4Jesus and copy the new one into this subdirectory.

Launch MSFX, bring up your plane and enter "Shift+Z+Z" this gives you a frame rate of your current system in fps (frames per second) ... you are looking for ~18 to 25 fps in order to fly the 737NGX without a bunch of jerky screen movements. I can remember the first flight I took with the instructor at Southwest Virtual Airlines and we flew into Love field in Dallas ... at night. I was only getting about 8 fps and landing was not fun.

Also, if things go really well for you and you tweak and tweak and tweak ... if you get your fps up to a desireable level you won't have to buy a new PC. After researching your machine and seeing you have 4 cores, this may be the case ... keep your fingers crossed and good luck.

Ok I'll try that. Right now without the tweaks I'm getting 3-5 FPS and its finally getting to me.

Aaron Brazda.

Don't forget and don't leave us hanging ... keep us updated with your progress.

Ok, I tried briefly after I did the tweak, it's a little better, I don't know if its the new San Diego scenery I bought or not.
