Wierd FPS problem with the New Rockwell Shrike

Featured Replies

Hi All,I have just been trying out the New Rockwell Shrike from Milton and team, very nice it is too, but I have noticed a strange problem, that I have not encountered on any addon plane before. When the plane start out in 2d panel I get my normal good fps and very smooth sim, UNTILL, I change views. Now, this can be any change of view, to VC, spot, or looking left, right erc, once the view has changed, the sim gets very choppy. This can be cleared by right clicking anywhere on the screen, so the little menu comes up, and then just clicking off this menu to clear it, then the sim becomes very smooth like normal again, untill I change the view, when it will happen again etc etc.Seems strange that the bad fps effect can be fixed by right clicking to that menu, and then back off it again.Like I said, I have never had this with any plane before.Any ideas?CheersDan.

I don't have any ideas but I am having the same problem.

Yes - same problem here. I think it has something to do with the VC. I am going to try some tests using the older AC500 panel...

Works fine here. Not to mention awesome aircraft...

Well, at least I am not the only one who is having the issue.I have done a bit more testing, and it is certainly the only plane I have that has this issue.Shame, as I get 33fps before changing views, and I have to do the right click menu to get my 33fps back.CheersDan.

Gentlemen,We have been trying to duplicate this issue but can't so far.Two things to try:1. Comment out this line in the panel.cfg found in window00 section.gauge33=fpda_gear_wind, 1,1,10,9 making it look like this:gauge33=//fpda_gear_wind, 1,1,10,9Then do this line in vcockpit01 section:gauge14=fpda_gear_wind, 1, 1 ,10,9 making it look like this:gauge14=//fpda_gear_wind, 1, 1 ,10,92. Download this file, unzip and copy the two textures to each of the three Shrike texture folders. Okay to overwrite.http://www.flightsimonline.com/downloads/texture.zipTest to see if the problem still exists.Let us know here please.Milton

Hi Milton,I tried those 2 things, no joy.It certainly does seem related to the VC though. As soon as the VC is seen, either by selecting the VC, or moving the view hat in the 2D panel to show the VC side views, it kills the FPS, from 33fps to 10fps, and the only way to get the fps back up to 33 is to right click and display the menu then click off it.StrangeCheersDan.

HI Dan ... burning the past-mid-night oil on this one. lolI have found the problem!!!This line in the vcockpit05 section of the panel.cfg is causing the issue.gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 1,1,578,578Comment this line out with slashes and it is resolved.gauge00=//fs9gps!gps_500, 1,1,578,578FS does NOT like the GPS in the VC!!!Also note that once you have this corrected, you can also pick up a few fps but hiding the overhead in the 2D panel (shift+2) once switches are set.I might also note that this same issue exists with the AC500vc1 and AC500ca1 cargo version. I'll have to test the Howard 500 for effect.Milton

Thanks Milton - that seems to fix the problem for me!

Hi All,Thanks Milton, but that fix does not seem to work for me.BUT............I have found one that does ;)If I remove these entries from the panel.cfg I get 33fps in VC and 2D all the time :)//--------------------------------------------------------[Vcockpit06]Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=548,548visible=0pixel_size=548,548texture=$classiccompass//gauge00=ST_500!ST_Compass, 5,10,538,538//--------------------------------------------------------[Vcockpit07]Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=578,578visible=0pixel_size=578,578texture=$classicoat//gauge00=ST_500!ST_OAT, 5,10,578,578Not sure why these would be cause an issue for me, but I dont mind losing the compass in the VC, also I notice the OAT is duplicated it also has an entry in the VC1 section?.Many thanks for the Shrike, she is a very nice plane, which leads me on to my next question, is there a paintkit for it?, or do I need to ask Andre ;)CheersDan.

Yep, I can confirm Dan's comments above. The problem is very pronounced. When I first load up the plane everything is perfect - 35-50fps in the 2D pit and the sim is silky smooth. But as soon as I switch to the VC it all goes to heck - 10-24fps in ALL views and huge texture load pauses and so forth. Right click on the 2D window and then re-activate the sim and its back to silky smooth Shrike goodness. The fixes provided by Milton (much appreciated of course) don't resolve the issue but commenting out the compass and OAT lines definitely does. Its like night and day the difference it makes. So it would seem theres something going on with those two items in particular.Otherwise, another killer plane from Milton & team. THanks muchly guys... :)

Thanks guys for the comments.Interestingly, leaving the OAT and compass in, or taking them out has no effect here. Very strange. EDIT: However, I had already deleted the duplicate entry in vc01.I will update the support site with both fixes. I am happy that we have this resolved. Thank you for your patience and assistance.I hope this leaves no bad taste in your mouth on the Shrike. ;-)Milton

Great aircraft and thank you. Used it most of Sunday morning and had not noticed the frame rate problem. After it was mentioned in this thread I checked and I did have the problem but rectified it with all the panel mods on this thread. My only problem now is when flying in spot view mode I lose the sim completely and return to the desktop. Have gone back to the old set-up for now.

Well, if you would like some help resolving the issue, please share more information about the problem.

HI Milton, Sorry this is a bit off topic but was wondering if your team was considering doing a 681? I took some decent pics of one hangered by Perimeter Airlines in Winnipeg when I was getting pictures for my cywg scenery. It's a very nice aircraft with a pretty paint. The PR director for Perimeter, who was giving me the tour, just that day was informed that he would be piloting the 681. The aircraft does frequent flights between Winnipeg and Abbotsford in my understanding.BTW, I fly PT-BUF about 90% of the time I use flight sim now. The perfect twin for flying between my Manitoba airports. Thanks,Adam
