Buggy 787 and its pilots' whimpers

Featured Replies

Since last mid of January, the problem hasnt been completely solved. I wonder if there has been cases similar to this involving a big compa'ny and its highly praised reputation. Having determined the problem might avoid fatal occurrences. However, the grounding results complaints, not only from Dreamliner operators but also their blank days pilots.

ANA pilots are complaining their not flying that has stimulates financial burdens as it reduces their 20% of overall earnings while JAL has to reduce 20% of their 787 pilots. I personally don't see any major reasons to complain LOL.. 30% WAGE CUT FOR DOING NOTHING ISN'T BAD AT ALL YOU LUCKY NINJAS! But that's my perspective.. all they are asked to do is to refresh their skill, awareness and airmanship within the simulator. They are also not allowed to jump into other types of Boeing although some of them operated 777 before. CAPA stated "crossing that bridge would only cost other issues", they didn't state what the potential issues are but i'm sure they suck

In India, Air India's 787 pilot turned into a rapper; complaining about his not flying for over a month. He stated in his lyrics that he is also having financial difficulty as he hasnt been flying over a month. THIS MC HAMMER has double troubled his career after The Indian Civil Aviation Ministry asked the company's CEO to take action against the pilot who also stated about "singapore" and "Casino" in his lyrics.

Qatar also demands compensation for the persistent problem. it costs them flight cancellations to US.

While the dev is working around the clock to release "patch / hotfix" to overcome the issue in the buggy 787, EADS is eagerly anticipating the first A350 flight in this summer..... yaay... Go Enders!

Not flying can be extremely frustrating for pilots, heck practically every year I'd log over 800 hours in the air, but still if I go over 2 weeks without flying I start to get annoyed and tetchy about not being in the air...

I couldn't imagine going 6 weeks without flying, I'd be driven stir crazy...

Boeing just needs to fix the 787 and learn from their mistakes.

Not to mention the loss of earnings, not sure how it works with your company but out here the extra money you make on allowances downroute can add up pretty fast, I know guys that cover rent just on allowences.

For us we only make about €700-€1000 a month on sector pay, so it's about 7% of our take home pay, but it varies certainly from airline to airline, with Ryanair it represents your entire wage packet, so it'd be no fun for them not to fly for an extended period of time. Not sure what the typical percentage of take home pay is represented by sector pay in most airlines, but I'd imagine for most it wouldn't go above 15-20% at a maximum, still a considerable chunk though...

What, no tray table? Couldn't be doing that now... :P

It's ridiculous having 100% of your packet being based on sector pay, and charging pilots to be hired, with no effects if they're completely over staffed. Ryanair pilots need to go on a good old fashioned strike and not return to work till they've all got proper permanent contracts with a decent and proper set wage, fair and transparent basing policy and a proper seniority system. MOL should be charged with extortion for what he's doing to pilots.

If we went on strike there wouldn't be a job to go back to, we all know MOL would be union busting ;)

Ach hopefully be jumping ship soon...

And tray tables - what are those? :O I thought siting cramped up scribbling on your lap was the way to do it? ;)

Can you call it a job at the moment, from what I hear half of yee are at yeer wits end from being tossed around Europe from base to base like child's toy...

I'm not sure if MOL would let it goes as far as to have FR go bankrupt and close down, he stands to lose an awful lot as FR's biggest individual shareholder.

And even if FR did go, they've generated the demand now so others would be waiting to jump in and fill the gap, and there'd be a pretty large gap.

Even if that wasn't the case, I'm not sure how long FR will last, at least in western Europe. It's aircraft are ageing now and will soon be requiring D checks, they don't have a great deal on new aircraft. EU investigating the illegal subsidies FR has been getting for the past few years, Germany I hear is investigation fraud for misdeclaring the MTOW used to calculate airspace charges. Not looking good.

We're already growing at their expense out of Dublin, our numbers and load factors are soaring, while theirs are declining (In DUB anyways), people just aren't willing to put up with FR and their antics at this stage, and the rest of us have all brought our cost base down to a point where we're able to strongly compete with FR, which wasn't the case 5-6 years ago. We now can offer flights as cheap if not cheaper than FR, but treat our customers like people, MOL has become a liability for FR at this stage. A few changes in their attitude to how they treat the people that pay their wages and FR could become an airline that people would be happy to fly with, but as it stands they no longer have the advantage over all of us of lower fares.

And if you come over to the dark side you'll love the tray table, no more balancing plates on your lap while you try and cut through your steak or having your hot soup spill all over your lap if you hit a bump, you'll not know yourself... B) ^_^ :P

Oh yes I use the word 'job' very lightly, I as originally based in Eastern Europe and then was told I had 1 month to be based in Spain and then the UK, it's absolutely crazy! And don't get me started on HR or mgt.......

But yeah I agree with your post completely!!

Also you say tray table and then mention me cutting into steak... Don't you mean a mars bar, packet of crisps and sandwhich which I made at home the night before? ;) ... Well with my current employer anyhow !!

Is it really true that yee don't even get free tea and coffee on board? I had always thought that was a bit of an exageration for effect, but I was never fully sure and felt rude to ask in most of my conversations with FR pilots.

Speaking of the mars bar and packet of crisps, reminds me of a prank the cabin crew pulled one April fools on a Captain back when I was a humble FO. I had just finished my meal, a nice beef stew, and then they walked onto the flightdeck and and announced; "I'm so sorry Captain, but I slipped on some water on the galley floor and dropped your meal. We would have given you another  replacement meal only we only just had enough catering, so we put together what was left as a bit of an ad-hoc meal for you, we hope it's okay."

Capt: "Oh, not to worry at all, I'm sure it was an accident, I'll just have whatever you've made from what was left on board for me."

To which the FA responded; "Oh good, Captain we're so sorry for the mess, so today you'll be having the 'Three peanuts with onion slices and leaf of lettuce in a lemon juice sauce' ".

She placed this plate on the tray table in front of the Captain with what was one of the most well presented meals around, but literally was just 3 peanuts, a few slices of union and a tiny leaf of lettuce with some lemon juice squeezed over it. It was hilarious.  :LMAO:

The Captain looked down at it in disbelief, declaring "WHAT? This is everything we have left on the plane??? This is just THREE peanuts, a tiny bit of onion and the smallest morsel of lettuce I've ever seen, you're telling me this is everything??? Not even a biscuit or a scone, nothing???"

FA: "Yes, we're so sorry Captain, we'd hoped for more but we just didn't have the catering on board"

At which point the Captain announced "Right Rónán, you have control and communications, I'm going to go search the ship, there's no way this is everything, yee've clearly misplaced a trolley or something."

At this point he got up, went back, checked the two front galleys only to find not a thing, in a mad state of both disbelief and panic. He had 4 flying hours ahead of him followed by about 2-3 more hours till we'd get to the restaurant, he having not eaten in about 5 hours, and left with only 3 peanuts to keep him going, anyways he got to the galley at the back and the CC were there with his meal and a grin on their faces, but that was one of the most priceless April fools pranks I've ever witnessed. You'd not believe how well presented the meal was ROFL...

Not sure if that came across right, maybe you had to be there in person...

Anyways, best get back to the 787 topic at hand...

Indeed not a thing ... But yeah some things around are a little over exaggerated, but no freebies at all... If you can call tea/coffee/drinks freebies?

That is some April fools prank my man !! Can just imagine his face!!!

Only prank we had was a while back with a new member of the cabin crew and we went on the PA and requested defib to flight deck immediately and she ran up with it panicking just to walk in and both of us hunched forward... Was hilarious her face!

But, yes back to 787 can't imagine how annoyed/ fidgety they must be! I can't go a few weeks let alone that long :O
