General FMC questions

Hello Kyle,

Thank you for the very useful document ......much appreciated work.

  • it seems I have a problem when I follow the tutorial with departure page, after selecting the departure runway, and because I will be vectored to first fix (no SIDs is needed) it wont let me :) and a list of SIDs appears followed by a transitions list, the three clicks to select only the runway as SID  wont happen.
  • The only thing that came to my mind as a development is that, it could be very educational to learn all features of the FMC during flight in full comprehensive tutorial  includes creating points, holding patterns and go around procedure

Best regards & thanks again

What's the SID/transition you're using?

I'll have to take a look into what else there is. Perhaps custom points, but holding isn't modeled on the unit, and a go around is a fully manual process, so the FMC doesn't come into play.

Dear Kyle

Sorry I had to verify the issue, OK I enter the flight plan, I select departure to pick the assigned runway, then it will open a list of SIDs, I don not want to use any because I will be vectored by ATC to first route fix, I tried to "not to select SID" FMC doesn't allow me .....? am doing something wrong here?

what I did is to pick up any SID & transition then I will use direct to option to ignore all SID way points ?

In the case you'd like to avoid a SID, skip the DEPART function entirely.  There's absolutely no need to go in there unless you're using a SID (selecting a runway without a SID isn't going to gain you anything, either), so just jump all the way down to picture 2 on page 11 (I guess I could have included step and page #s...).  Instead of RW30 - KROA, you would see KIAD - KROA (in your case, just the departure and destination fields).  The same goes for the next step: you'd just see the departure field identifier, instead of a runway.  You still want to press ENTER twice to activate that leg, but you'll want to depart on HDG mode, and then transition to NAV mode when ATC gives you direct to [FIX].

Many thanks Kyle

  • 3 months later...

In the FMC NAV page I can only see distance to the next waypoint, but how could I see the cumulative distance to my destination?
