March 11, 201313 yr I have just completed my very first flight from KLAX to PHNL. Everything during the flight was superb and absolutely beautiful flying into a setting tropical sun. I configure the aircraft perfectly (well) for short final and the ils doesn't capture the glideslope. Then it's elbows and nether regions which is totally unsuccessful and I end up in the bay. Nearly six hours. Don't you hate that? I should ask: Why does it pick ils 8l at phnl to decide not to work? Is it maybe fsx. Jon
March 11, 201313 yr Two words: Go around That is why all ILS procedures have a published "Missed Approach" section, for you to follow if you can't capture the G/S or Loc. "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend

I agree totally that missed approach education, is a must for one such as I. Although, I'm in a flight simulator and it's supposed to work. It would have been fine if it had just captured the glideslope. I did get one wheel on the runway (the front, I think) Jon
March 11, 201313 yr What aircraft were you using? Defualt or add-on? Add-on scenery? These could be factors in the problem. "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend
March 11, 201313 yr You should of been "ahead of the plane" and seen it coming so you could fix it right then and there. And others said, try a go around. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060

The 747 works at every other airport. I'm going to fly a shorter route to confirm that. Yes, a go-around, I need to learn how to do a go-around. That is a given but 8l having an absence of gs capture or glideslope is something I have to correct. Then I'll learn how to perform the correct procedure for a go-around. That's as soon as I set the right keypresses for the various disconnects. Jon
March 11, 201313 yr I'n not that familiar with the 747 but did you capture the LOC before trying to capture the G/S? Go arounds are pretty easy, if you are flying online(VATSIM, IVAO) the controllers will tell you what to do, if your not online the default ATC will give you vectors to re-intercept the ILS. If you don't use the default ATC, check the procedure publiished on the ILS approach chart. All aussie charts can be found here. Looking at the ILS RWY23 at YPAD (Adelaide) you can see the missed approach proc is printed about 2/3rds of the way down. It is also represented by the dashed lines on the horizontal view of the approach and the vertical profile. March 11, 201313 yr Did you fly the approach as published? FSX has a tendancy to react late on the autopilot localizer tracking. Picking it up further out, at the minimum decent level, will help stabalize the approach before you hit the glide. You need to intercept the glide from below for the autopilot to catch it. Do not judge people until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Then at least you are a mile ahead of them when you ###### them off...

I always try to approach the gs from 2500 ft. It has worked until now. I just flew in to YSSY and loc and gs capture was a doddle. I'm beginning to think it might be FSX. Go arounds are pretty easy, if you are flying online(VATSIM, IVAO) I have not had the confidence to do that as yet. I had a logon years ago but never went on with it. Jon
