Changing the CPU on the Latitude D630 Laptop - Are these CPUs compatible?

Featured Replies

I've been kind of unsatisfied with the performance of FSX on my laptop, a Dell Latitude D630. :(

Since FSX is CPU-dependent, I figured that a CPU swap to a more powerful one could do the trick.

I know everyone's saying, "Changing a CPU on a laptop is impossible. It'll make little difference, anyway. Go buy a desktop."

But I don't want to hear it.  I know a friend who can change the CPU for me if I provided him with a new CPU.

All I want to know is if the CPUs listed below would be compatible with my current CPU, an Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4 GHz.

Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 @ 3.06 GHz

Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 @ 2.6 GHz

I've created a reference on the Dell website: http://ark.intel.com/compare/39312,33099,33918

It'll be helpful if someone confirms that the T9900 (or the T9500) is compatible to the T8300.

Also, can someone tell me how much FSX would improve if the T8300 was swapped out with the T9900?

Thanks in advance. ^_^

You have answered your own thread already then.. Thus no replies..

To be fair, if somebody called me and asked me to do this for them, in the same way you have worded it here, (I repair laptops) I would put the phone down on them.

But will your laptop still work after the change?

I honestly don't think that changing the CPU will make much difference. Even Though FSX is CPU dependent you still need some kind of graphic card. Dell Latitude D630 is a business model and I don't think they have anything special for a graphics card. Maybe a Intel video card that shares video memory with your PC. You will spend money and be dissapointed in the end. Good Luck

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention, but I have a Nvidia NVS Quadro 135M if anyone wants to know.

And let me tell everything I know about this D630.

Model Number: PP18L

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4 GHz

GPU: Nividia NVS Quadro 135M

RAM: 4GB

HHD: SATA-type hard drive (Total space of 74.4GB)

It looks like the T8300 CPU was custom-fitted when my dad's company ordered it, because the T8300 doesn't show up

in Dell's default specifications. If the sockets are the same as the T8300, then I think the T9900 could fit.

The quadro series cards are directed more for business graphics applications rather than video games. What kind of performace are you looking to get? If you are looking to fly the pmdg 737 ngx with fsdreamteam sceneries then you are out of luck my friend. Id save my money for a much faster laptop.

I'm looking for a 25~30 FPS performance at medium high settings. My current rig gets about 18 FPS, but it constantly lags down to a slow 5~9 FPS.

And I'm not planning to use any sceneries (Except for FlyTampa's St. Maarten), but I'd like to play the 737NGX at a decent FPS, specifically in the 12~18 FPS range.

some people are lucky to get that  kind of performance from computers double the speed of your laptop.

It's necessary to check which CPU's are compatible with the chipset used by the T8300.

I just looked and it looks like only the T9500 is compatible chipset-wise.
