March 22, 201313 yr I installed the DCS software and it did not give me any option to choose between 32bit or 64bit, and when I look in the Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\ there is only 1 DCS.exe (the actual application) and 32bit dll's. In order for there to be a 64bit version there would need to be the presence of 2nd DCS.exe and 64Bit dlls. A 64bit program cannot dynamically link to a 32bit library, 64bit dlls need to be present. And they are not. Therefore this is a 32bit application. Furthermore seeing as how they frequently update DCS, if it were 64bit already dropping 32bit would be an immediate decision, not one that takes months to implement. But it doesn't matter much as it will be 64bit in the near future.
March 22, 201313 yr Author Per post I read: "The installer does not 'assume' anything. It determines what environment it is in and installs the correct files. If you had a 32bit version of Windows it would do the exact same thing and install the correct files for that environment" So, DCS is capable of 64 bit, thus if you have win32 DCS will install 32bit binaries, if you have Win64 then DCS will install 64bit binaries. The fact is that DCS has been 64 bit for some time. It happened before DCS World. It happened when DCS:A10 was in beta. There weer some teething problems at the time, E.g. TIR not working with the 64 bit version and needing an update with TIR to support the 64 bit DCS. So, I am not having an argument about how 64 bit works with, or does not with 32 bit code. All I am saying is that DCS world and A10 before that has been 64 bit for quite some time and rather than get informed about you you still imply it is not. Instead of reading something on the xplane forums why not go to the ED forums. If for anything so that when you quote in bold that dcs is 32 bit, not 64 bit you will get it correct, not wrong.
March 23, 201313 yr Here is a review from simhq back in october 2010 http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_460a.html I am not sure exactly when it went 64 bit but simhq talks about it and asks if it is the first 64 bit simulator. So its been 64 bit for at least 2 1/2 years.
