DCS World going 64-bit also...

Plus several of their products on-sale, I'll be getting the P-51D Mustang for only $9.99

Windows 11 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Asus Prime Z690 | i7 12700KF HT | DeepCool LS520 SE | MSI 5070 Ti Ventus OC | 64GB G.Skill XMP II | Lian Li 216 LANCOOL RGB | TrackIr v5 | Honeycomb Alfa - Bravo - Charlie | MSFS 2024 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Curved 27" MSI | JBL Quantum 810

Carlos,

thx for the link :-)

But... DCS World is already 64 bit, although you can run it in 32bit OS just like X-Plane10. There is only one executable that manages the switch between 64 and 32 bit mode I believe!

In my Win7 64 it has a performance and level of detail only possible to achieve thx to it running in 64 bit ;-)

Give it a try one of these days - you won't regret!

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

From the article, it looks like they're planning on cancelling their support for 32-bit systems and only working in 64-bit down the road.

It's a good "rip off the band-aid" approach which both MSFS and X-Plane don't have as much of a luxury to do, with backwards compatibility in mind.

DCS World is already 64 bit

I guess I misunderstood then, so DCS is already 64-bit and only dropping 32-bit support.

Just did Juan Carlos, I just got en email with the serial number for the P-51D. Guess what I'll be doing during the weekend!...lol

Never heard of that...What about all these downloads:

148-3.bin

148-2.bin

etc.

Which do I need? Screenshots somewhere?

Thanks

Can one fly an A330 from EIDW to KBOS in DCS World?

Okay loaded question but you get my point. ;)

There is no such thing as a C/C++ executable that can switch between 64-bit and 32-bit modes, because there is no C/C++ compiler that can create such an executable. You have to provide a separate native executable for 64-bit.

DCS is currently a 32-bit application. It is not 64-bit. They do not offer 64 bit executables

It takes a few months to make a program of this size 64-bit safe, and that is what part of this announcement was about. The other part is this is a switch-over not a transition, they will not offer 2 executables - like X-Plane, but only one 64-bit executable in the near future.

Indeed, DCS is 32bit right now.

Nope,

but we can fly a prop aircraft and feel like flying it for real... at least in as far as flight dynamics, environment, even AI around us (military-oriented of course...) go ....

and we can do it with very good graphics, and smoothly....

Absolutely wrong!   Dcs has been 64 bit for some time, well before xplane as an example.

What actually happens is that DCS uses a launcher so when you load up DCS and get to the menu you are not actually in the game engine.   The menus, options settings etc are all in one application and when you try and get to the cockpit then the launcher loads either the 64 or 32 bit executable.

The 64 bit version is very safe at the moment and far less headaches than for people running the 32 bit version which has issues due to memory.

I just read the piece posted at xsim reviews.  Perhaps it's not clear for people that do not know DCS but it is explaining that 32 bit will be dropped and they will only support the 64 bit version which they have already had for a long time.

Ah!  So I wasn't mad :-)...

Lets just say you were correct on this point and leave it at that lol :)

loads either the 64 or 32 bit executable.

and how you choose which one you want to load?

I am not sure,  I have never used the option.   I remember that during install you are asked if you want to  install the 32bit exe as well as the default 64 bit one.
