March 24, 201313 yr The simmer I sold my copy of X-Plane10 Global to is so happy with the sim that he makes me happy too, if not for him, for the fact that indeed X-Plane10 makes many users more than satisfied, specially those who come from MSFS and had problems of stability with that sim. I can only regret not being able to hand him my LES and Carenado add-ons (the only i bought for XP10) because of their EULAs. Anyway, I am sure he will soon get those I mentioned. He certainly laughs at my arguments for having given up on X-Plane10, and at the same time is thankful for me thinking like that because, after all, he got it! :-) He comes from FSX, has a much more sophisticated simulation hardware / controllers solution than the one I have, it's what we call an hardcore flight simmer. Amazed at the performance he got after installing X-Plane10, and I took care to ask him to 1st try the demo before buying it because he should really be able to make his mind about giving that step..., he says - "Whow! this is a completely new and much better/ immersive simulation experience!!!". Nothing was lost after all, and someone with different interests and wants regarding the use of a flight simulator can easily see in X-Plane10 more than sufficient arguments to make her/him feel a lot better with it than with MSFS. When I read posts like the one from Robert yesterday, or today's captain420 post, I can only remember my own posts when I was very happy myself with what X-Plane10 was giving me. Each one has it's own wants/requirements though, and with time I ended up focusing only on those aspects I didn't like about X-Plane10. Eventually I got the idea that exactly those features would never be fixed during the XP10 cycle, and that was the end of my motivation for me, but for those who see and give importance to other features that X-Plane10 provides, it is very easy to fall in love for it. Positive posts are always welcome, those full of joy and admiration in their words. After all, MS FLIGHT and the posts of a girl named Arwen some might have known from the MS FLIGHT forum were, by that time, the main reason I decided to give flight simulation a new go after more than 5 yrs aways from "flying" in the PC... We need those posts, although of course when we write them we (and I know i have many times failed this item...) must take care not to make unnecessary comparisons, although I find perfectly acceptable that we enhance features that we find better in this or that sim than we were accustomed to in our other sims... March 24, 201313 yr I haven't touched my xp10 over a month since I bought Farm Simulator 2013, lol it's soooo addictive. I'll fly it soon when I get my new GTX Titan in a few weeks.
March 24, 201313 yr I hope you will stick around, Jcomm! If only to have a go at landing the 737-300 we are building in some rough weather :-) Here is a little teaser video for you: All the best, Jan
March 24, 201313 yr Author It looks GREAT Janov! Also the landing technique working just like in RL (yes, I have had the chance to jumpseat in the old Air Portugal 737-300 on a few x-wind landings at Fuchal (now Madeira - LPMA) airport, and the controls applied to the yoke were EXACTLY like I see in your video! I think you've been able to nail the flight model at least in that particular aspect! Congratulations :-) I will keep my eyes on it for sure ;-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 26, 201313 yr Author Or even the A380 on this one: I remember perfectly one of the more challenging landings on a 737-300 I did fro the jumpseat of an Air Portugal 737-300. We certainly landed while still in crab, and the captain and 1st officer did exactly what you see in Janov's the movie - yoke full forward and all to the right (upwind)... March 26, 201313 yr What I don't understand is why the rest of the 737 Cockpit isn't done yet. The entire panel is flawless, but there are huge areas of nothing. It gives me the impression it's still a long way until release, or am I wrong? Alexis Mefano
March 26, 201313 yr Hi Alec, we went about creating this aircraft a bit different then most other designers do. We wanted to do the hard part (systems, flightmodel) first, then finish with the easier and more rewarding stuff (3D, texturing). Texturing the cockpit is not a major obstacle to release - unfortunately real life knocked down productivity of 2/3rds of the developer team to almost zero for a few months over this winter. If it hadn´t, you might have held this plane in your "virtual hands" already, I think. Jan
March 26, 201313 yr Good to know the complicated stuff has been done before the 3d modeling work, that means it's not years away! I'm just waiting this bird to get released to install my copy of X-Plane again. removed it since it was using too much space. Alexis Mefano
