March 26, 201313 yr Author Why not just plug in a few airports and check the Real Time Wx using FSX and compare to known METARs? I did it already. As I mentioned in my first post, I downloaded the FSX real time weather for Hamburg and it showed me 45F. Inside the cockpit I called ATIS and the temperature changed to 12 but 12 what? F or C? I checked the real weather for Hamburg and the highest at that time was 1C. So converting from F to C, 45F is around 7C. As you see what FSX realistic time gives, is not realistic at all. Now I am in the phase to choose a weather addon but I don't know which one. All of them look good. Panos Kotzias
March 26, 201313 yr ATIS tells you the temperature in F or C whatever you choose in your FSX options! And for your questions I think is 12F wich means -11C! I recommend Active Sky Evolution, I have it since I was playing FS2004, it's for both FS2004 and FSX! I must say that I can't imagine flying without it, I've test it with real world weather and is on the spot all the time!!!! March 26, 201313 yr As you see what FSX realistic time gives, is not realistic at all. Yeah I meant a number of airports over a short period of time... I was not aware of FSX Wx being "broke" - again. I believe when it did work correctly, there was some lag to the updates e.g. it might be time for the 15z METAR and FSX would be using the 12z METAR. I've heard there was a six hour lag... I really don't know. Although it did a decent job at providing wx conditions, it was not ever as good as e.g. Active Sky (in simulating / replicating conditions). Now I am in the phase to choose a weather addon but I don't know which one. All of them look good. Stand-by for a number of answers here as can already be seen by the above posts.
March 27, 201313 yr All I want is to use one of the real world flight planning sites that I use for IRL flight planning, and have my FSX weather be a reasonable match. I had that after migrating to FSX in January 2012 up until about March 19, 2013 with the native FSX WX when it went AWOL. Now I am attempting to rely on the WX engine from my chosen WX texture add on, and finding that WX engine is out of scope on winds aloft.; Often 30 degrees or more off on winds aloft wind direction, sometimes as much as 180 degrees off, and at times half my IRL forecast wind speed and at other times twice my forecast wind speed. I am a former USAF meteorologist and have done thousands of flight weather briefings. Perhaps that makes me more sensitive. On other thought, NO! If a product is represented as realistic then it should conform to that expectation. My experience over the past week has been horrible. There has to be better !!! Native FSX provided it! April 3, 201313 yr It's back working now. I checked today and got accurate weather (vs real world metar) at my departure airport. Checked my destination, and a couple of airports distant from those two and verified. I also got accurate winds at 8,000 compared to NOAA winds aloft forecast chart for 10,000. FSX weather had been static since around March 19th.
