So is it just me or is this just like Ivy and Sandy with Ivy carrying for pipes for pcie?  Not that--that's a bad thing or anything.

Any takes on this?

Basically (as IvyBridge was except for PCIE3) its an upgrade to the Intel inbuilt graphics with possible single figure performance increase over SB/IB.

My notes that I took for the IB intro stated at the time, 'that IB has 240,000,000 more transistors than SB, dedicated mainly to onboard graphics, it has no no extra cores, but the extra transistors give IB a 20% increase in complexity for a single digit performance increase.'

So you might be better off performance wise to use Socket LGA 2011 on an X79 mobo (or Xeon) as AFAIK there are no onboard graphics on thos cpus, or whatever the Haswell equivalent might be.

I was liking the Ivy for the pcie lane support for more equal discreet g-card perf. with the z77 mobos.  Overclocking a bit hot, but not to bad with the right cooling.

I'm hanging on maybe til next year if n when Haswell E comes out.  It is purported to have BCLK based overclocking and if they improve on the thermal interface material could be a good thing.   Seems like they may continue to support the performance market.   I'm also looking at IB-E and who knows maybe they will use fluxless solder there too.   My next build is going to address a more modern sim engine that can do what XPlane 10 does, ie use as many  cores as you have available, plus DX11, etc, while still running the old sim good enough.

Doesnt appear that there will ever be an IB-E

Intel seems to be looking at going straight to Haswell-E
