Frames REALLY UP...but I'm kind of sad!

Featured Replies

Sounds wierd, right? Well, I installed a new NVidia 6800GT O.C. card last week and replaced an ATI 9800 Pro 128. I saw a nice improvement in Frames. At KABE (my home airport) with REAL WEATHER, and most of my sliders maxed, I went from about 22Frames to about 30Frames. But this morning, I unhooked my MSFF2 joystick and installed a Cyborg Gold (Saitek)which I bought a couple of months ago, but haven't really tested yet. My Frames went up over 40 sitting on the tarmac with tremendously overcast skies (Real Weather). I'm sad because I love Force Feedback and I was on the Beta Team for Russell Dirks FSForce software. I love the program and am looking forward to updates. However.....Smoothness will prevail for me. I just couldn't believe the increase in frames by just switching joysticks.Additionally, on a flight to KLGA and doing the ILS on runway 4, I pass NYC on the left. I have NYC MEGASCENERY and my frames usually drop to 9 or 10 and in best case to mid-teens. Today, with the Cyborg, my frames stayed in the 20's as I looked at the massive scenery to my left. What do you know about Joysticks and their effect on frames, and I sure hope I can replace my Microsoft stick with a new FF stick in the future.

I would love one of that card but not for FS. For America's Army or other FPS that card will rock. For FS though it's CPU CPU CPU but certainly the 6800 can't hurt ;-)Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. Once again, Stan, you have an issue with your system. I have a MSFF2 and CH yoke and see no difference in frames whatosever between the two controllers, no matter what. I plugged in an old gameport stick the other day, while I was testing a soundcard and didn't see any difference in FS then either. It's not FF that's the problem. Allcott

There's something wrong with your system. I switched from a Logitech FF stick to a non-FF Saitek Evo (it was an upgrade, not a downgrade, trust me). I did not notice any difference as far as framerate.

I too switch between my CH Yoke and MSFF2 and have no diff in performance.I know using joystick ports over USB can result in lower performance.XP Home SP2Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ

yeah MS FFB joysticks are known for being buggy. I have yet to have a single issue with my Saitek Cyborg force stick in whatever game I play IL 2, FS 2004, LOMAC etc etc. There is a performance hit so it shouldn

Common myth here. Microsoft stated today at the AVSIM conference that the video card makes a big difference. The CPU does the work a poor video card does not do like shading and the like taking away from the performance the CPU could do if it wasn't busy doing drawing. Their presentation will be here on AVSIM in a few days. > I would love one of that card but not for FS. For America's>Army or other FPS that card will rock. Thanks for posting this info, John. Makes me feel better about the money my wife spent on my X800.Cheers,Greg
