April 1, 201313 yr Hi everyone. I seem to have a problem, I can only see most objects (on the ground) only when I/m close to the, ie runway lights and etc. for example when I'm landing as I am on final when I'm around 1000 ft I can't see the runway lights at the end of the runway and as I get closer they (one by one) start to appear. same happens for instance when Im only very close I can see the runway number and etc ... Can someone maybe help me out on how to fix this? Thanks Navid
April 1, 201313 yr First, what are the specs on your system and what kind of FPS are you getting? This problem is easily fixable - just a simple cfg edit - but if you are having this problem to begin with, I'd guess you probably have a marginal system.
April 2, 201313 yr Author Hi Thanks for your reply. System is: Intel i5 2.5Ghz 8Gb Ram Intel HD 3000 onboard graphics. Windows 7 FPS locked at 22. Thanks
April 2, 201313 yr Ah. I see. You've got onboard graphics. It might not be wise to fix the problem with your current set up - you REALLY need a new graphics card very badly! But, this is how you fix the problem (don't blame me if your FPS drops afterwards): Find your fs9.cfg (in Win7, the location is "C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9\FS9.cfg"). Open it as a txt in notepad and find the line where it reads: LOD_TARGET_FPS= Then, change the the number there to a LOWER number. See, right now, FS is trying really hard to enforce the FPS number setting there and is determining when to switch LOD models to maximize FPS. Unfortunately, your system is in fact marginal for FS9, so in order to maintain the FPS setting on the LOD_TARGET_FPS= line, it is forced to simply not display objects until you are very close to them. I'll bet with your system, your FPS still sometimes falls when you get close enough to an object for it to display. If you change the LOD_TARGET_FPS= to a lower number, it will aim for a lower number, which means it can show more objects more often.
April 2, 201313 yr change the LOD_TARGET_FPS= Don't bother changing that entry, FS will change it the next time you start the sim and that number is always going to be 70% of your UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT= and is ignored if you set that to unlimited. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

And you REALLY should get a new graphics card regardless...
April 2, 201313 yr So Should I change FPS to unlimited and LOD_TARGET_FPS= alone? Thanks You can't hurt anything by trying unlimited FPS. If you do, you can try different settings for LOD_TARGET_FPS, I don't think you will see much difference with different settings. As I understand it, when you lock frames and FS can't achieve that number, when FPS drop below LOD_TARGET_FPS (70% of FSP lock) FS will start lowering the displayed LOD in an attempt to achieve desired frames. That entry appears to be for our information only and if your frames are above that threshold, you are seeing the highest LOD available. When you set FPS to unlimited the LOD_TARGET_FPS entry is not changed by FS because ther is no such number as 70% of unlimited. If your frames are locked at 22 and you constantly see 22 then the LOD_TARGET_FPS tweak is a red herring. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
