Ordered system yesterday, now this comes up...

Featured Replies

Ordered a new Alienware Aurora last night that is already in production. (Next system will be built by my hands, promise!)

Specs are:

Aurora R4

i7-3820 OC'd @ 4.2

Water Cooled

8GB DDR3 1600

Win 7 64 Bit

GTX 660 1.5GB

500GB SSD for W7 and FS

1TB 7200RPM for everything else.

Onboard Sound

CD/DVD

1,622 was the total after tax and shipping.

I was just poking around Dell's website and now I see this:

Refurbished R4

i7-3930k @ 3.9

1TB HDD

8GB DDR3 1600

1.25 gig GTX 560 ti.

Main differences from my order? CPU, SSD and the 560 ti for a much lower 1,163 after tax and shipping.

Should I pick up the refurb and just send my original back after it arrives? I'd have the benefit of an unlocked i7, but I'd be loosing my 660 and SSD (which I can turn around and upgrade anyways). Do the pro's outweigh the cons here?

If it were me, at this point - I would keep it. Forget the Dell and stop looking around. :)

You have quite a nice system. It was expensive, but it's complete. Just fire up FS and enjoy.

Ehhh... I hope you're right! Hopefully the AW will run FSX well. Expensive? IMHO, yes. More than I wanted to realistically spend but thankfully I have in home tech support in the event that anything goes wrong and no RMA's to worry about. That is just total peace of mind for me, enough to earn my business again.

I wish I could find someone with the exact or a similar system to comment on performance.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard that...

Ohhh Yeh,

I have two PCs that I built both and I`m getting 4.7 Ghz with Intel i7 2600K.

If I were you I would cancel your order and pick up the refurb unit.

Price difference on the CPU alone makes it worth it in my opinion.

GPU on the refurb unit is marginally slower but you would probably barely notice and could swap it out later.SSD's are getting cheaper these days and could be easily added.
