April 26, 201313 yr Author but if you engage A/P 1 via left A/P button on mcp, both A/P buttons illuminate;and in your example,if you hit the right one,the A/P disengages now what?i'm getting bored of it,really disapointing that you dont have the aircraft and really needed to know something about it! April 26, 201313 yr You cannot do that! There is no option to choose which A/P you want to use. Lj. Prodanovic

Sorry you're getting bored. As the above information is correct and if you still don't agree maybe you could try Boeing? :( Otherwise, have a look at the links to smartcockpit B) Carl Beeby
April 26, 201313 yr @Flamin_Squirrel Okay Flamin, I'm not going to argue with you over what is and not correct. I just asked a real world 777 first officer: "Nope, only difference is that it will say L or R on the PFD depending on which button is pushed, it engages all 3 at once so doesnt matter." @blocks_off I'm not sure why he's not understanding.. - Luke Pabari

April 27, 201313 yr @Flamin_Squirrel You said their function isn't identical.. Which it is lol.. - Luke Pabari
April 27, 201313 yr @Flamin_Squirrel You said their function isn't identical.. Which it is lol.. The pilot you quoted specifically states there is a difference, so how can you claim they're identical? To be identical they would have to have EXACTLY the same function, but they don't; depending which button is pressed affects whether it's the left or right EFIS BARO setting that's referenced. This is explicit in the FCOM. I really don't understand why you keep on insisting there is no difference/they're identical, even when the FCOM and your own quote states otherwise. Jordan Forrest
April 27, 201313 yr The pilot you quoted specifically states there is a difference, so how can you claim they're identical? To be identical they would have to have EXACTLY the same function, but they don't; depending which button is pressed affects which EFIS BARO setting is referenced. This is explicit in the FCOM. You do know I'm just talking about engaging the Autopilot.. Which has nothing to do with the BARO selector - not sure which FCOM you're reading! Jonny stated you can get a Left or Right indication on the PFD depending which button is selected, either way ALL autopilots engage no matter which one you select. Therefore it has absolutely no difference whether you hit the left or right AP button and the effect is exactly the same. If it wasn't the same then the other AP button would not illuminate. Unlike in the 737; if you select CMD-B then CMD-A won't engage. - Luke Pabari
April 27, 201313 yr You do know I'm just talking about engaging the Autopilot.. Which has nothing to do with the BARO selector - not sure which FCOM you're reading! Section 10.10.20: L or R indicates that the left or right EFIS control panel is the barometric setting reference for the autopilot or flight director (the same indication is displayed on both PFDs). Displayed when a flight director switch is ON or the autopilot is engaged. • F/D – one turned on and one not on determines L or R • F/D – both on – L is displayed • A/P – first one pushed on determines L or R. April 27, 201313 yr @Flamin_Squirrel Yet again, it makes no difference as to which AP you turn on. So, what are the differences between hitting the AP button on the right to the left side of the MCP? How will that affect flight and the automation? "If the skipper is flying, the first officer will generally switch the AP cloest to him on when requested. Simply because it has no difference behind the scenes to the automation. Unlike when I flew the 737 the PF would use the AP respectibal to their side and only A or B would be engaged, whereas the 777 both AP buttons engage at the same time. The 777 is completely automated and has no physical difference asto which button you select." There - I asked again, just for you! Once again, I am talking nothing more than simply engaging the autopilot. Oh and which FCOM are you using? 10:10:20 for me is all about the ND :-P - Luke Pabari
April 27, 201313 yr Oh and which FCOM are you using? 10:10:20 for me is all about the ND :-P B777 Flight Instruments and Displays. So, what are the differences between hitting the AP button on the right to the left side of the MCP? How will that affect flight and the automation? Open the link above, look at section 10.10.20. Then put it in context with the original question below: and what about this case: if i want to fly as a cm1 and altimiter #1 in qnh 1012 indicates 9895 ft and altimiter #2 is in qnh 1011 and indicates 10010 ft,and if i want to alt hold at 10000ft,which altimiter A/P relay on and follow The automation logic won't change as you say, but where the baro reference comes from does.
