Unstable landings

Featured Replies

I have been using the 737NG's auto-land system for many weeks now without major problems. However, just recently, with no obvious link to anything newly installed, the plane is unsteady when rolling out of its landing.

It lands with a perfect flare but then tilts onto one wheel then the other and it takes some effort to keep it straight at the same time applying reverse thrust.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

With different airports the ILS's are implemented in different ways, addon airports in particluar. With some airports the aircraft starts yawing early (and still fast!) on rollout.

Have you tried autoland again with an airport, you know for sure the autoland had worked before?

Other than that it could be an asymmetry in braking or reverse thrust, for example.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believed that autoland and crosswinds do not go well together. Have you recently installed weather software, or noticed that all these landings are in crosswinds?

Good point, are you within crosswind limits?

Thanks for the help, I will note the winds next time and see what happens. I am using REX and that has had a recent upgrade which I forgot about!
