May 20, 201313 yr Hi seems the manuals are not very complete about FMS operations. So,what is the VNAV FMS approaches proceduers? Captain Hamzeh Farhadi A320 TRI/TRE at Iran Air
May 20, 201313 yr If you are referring to the FMS providing vertical guidance on an LNAV/VNAV or RNP approach, I'm afraid you'll have to do the vertical step-downs 'manually' using the altitude select feature on the FGC. Apparently, that's true in the actual aircraft as well, based on a post by a RW Q400 pilot in the Majestic forums. Do a search in the Majestic forum for 'VNAV approach' and there is a detailed thread on the subject. May 20, 201313 yr At my airline, presently training on the Q400, we do have whats known as ''Approach VNAV'' and it loads a VNAV flight path angle for most approaches in the FMS. Its is based on the barometric altimeters for normal approaches or GPS/WASS for LPV approaches. This FPA is based on what is published on our Jepp charts. If a certain approach has 3.25 degrees, it will load a 3.25 degree VNAV path angle with the approach and include all the correct crossing altitudes at each point on the approach to make a 3.25 FPA. In the MJC Q400 it does not load the BARO/LPV VNAV for every approach maybe something in store for a future update?Alex
May 21, 201313 yr Author i think you got it wrong,i know how to do a approach that based on VNAV,i don't know how to program the FMC for it Captain Hamzeh Farhadi A320 TRI/TRE at Iran Air
March 24, 201412 yr I have flown a few vnav approaches in the majestic Q400. To load the approach I use the "Arrivals" key on the FMC and just make sure to select a RNAV approach. When you select the desired approach check in the FMC that the minimum altitude(s) are set. My VNAV approaches have all worked ok but I think if the minimum alt was not loaded things might not go to plan. This will depend on how accurate your (our) nav data is in the FMC so check the altitude(s) before you start the approach. Good luck. DP
