Missing STAR's in FMC

Recommended Posts

When I got home today I got on Flight Aware and found a flight that I could do on FSX. The flight was from KPHX to KABQ, and the route was SJN6 SJN KRKEE1. I loaded up FSX and started the flight. When I started to select my arrival for KABQ in the departure/arrival page the STAR "KRKEE1" was missing. So is there a way to fix it or even add that STAR to the FMC?

There are two ways:

  1. Upgrade your navigation data: http://www.navigraph.com/.
  2. Program the STAR according to the STAR chart..

I really don't want to pay for the new cycles, and what do you mean by program the STAR according to the STAR chart. Do you mean enter all the legs manually?

Yes. You can get the charts for KABQ from FlightAware. Look up the KREE1 STAR and manually insert the waypoints.

I understand not wanting to pay for updated Nav data, but I would urge you to consider it.

You don't have to enter into a long-term subscription with Navigraph... You can download a single (current) cycle for just over 5 dollars (3.92 Euro), which will update not only all PMDG products, but also many other add-ons that you may own.

I assume you are using the original Navigraph cycle that came by default with the NGX, which is now almost two years out-of-date.

There have undoubtedly been dozens and dozens of new R/W STARS and SIDS that have been implemented since your existing Nav Data was current. Much easier I would think, to pay a small one-time fee to bring your Nav Data up to date, than to go through the process of trying to build missing procedures by hand. It CAN be done, but it tends to be quite tedious, and is prone to errors.

Yeah, I second Jims suggestion.  If you loaded up Navigraph once a year it will keep you fairly up to date with your SIDS & STARS.  It's pretty cheap really.

Unless you update the database ( navigraph) you will find that more and more the routes you get from flightaware won't work.

Yes.  Go into the PMDG Navdata folder in your FSX location.  In there, find the SID/STAR information and open KABQ.  Use the existing STARs as an example to write a new one.

Once you're done with one, you'll understand why people pay others a rather small amount to do this for them.

Keeping your information up to date is hugely important if you'd like to continue using real world routes.

Navigraph all the way. As has been stated, 1 update cycle runs around $5 and you can update the FMC databases of all your payware aircraft. Its a no brainer IMO. It also updates published air routes saving even more time. Skyvector.com is invaluable for printing out various approach plates, SIDS, STARS, and airport diagrams and its free.
