In that case since your not rendering videos or any thing like that I will go with haswell.2. haswell is having some major heat and overclocking issues If I was you I will go IVY now

Do you recommend Haswell or Ivo ?

Regarding 2. after doing my own search my impression is that the heat problem is the same as for Ivo Bridge. Also I get the impression that a haswell could be overclocked as much as an Ivo. One thing I read about was that the 4660K had problems with overclocking that the 4770K doesn't had. Is it that you are thinking on regarding problems with overclocking ?

What disturbs me here is that a haswell  new build (and also Ivo Bridge I think) will have no prospects of being upgraded and will be very expensive.

Here another pice of info to let you know the trend and stand that intel is taking lately:

What are the practical implications for the flight simmer here?  And from the comments I get the impression that this also apply to Ivo Bridge.

The reality is intel is not after the overclocker's or to better their cpu's that much. They are puching overclocker's to buy the extreme edition cpu either Sandybridge-E or the upcoming Ivybridge-E because the can charge more and make more profit. They also know the extreme edition is more for multithreaded applications witch FSX is not one of them. Their mainstream cpu are turning into marginal improvements at best and their quality is also starting to be questionable (example been the change of their thermal solution from solder to cheap paste[TIM]). My advice is pick the lesser of the two evils IMO Ivy. Could all of this change in the future hopefully so, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think me personally are going with AMD if Steamroller is good enough.

P.S. In the article I posted it has been reported that 4770K is on average only capable of 4.3Ghz (temp still been around 80c), as said before Ivy IPC is just tiny bit slower 5%-10% (not significant) than Haswell. Still with heat problems but not as bad, also capable on average of hitting 4.5Ghz

Also personally think that the future of Flightsim will be X-plane hopefully, pretty much we are beating a dead horse (still good enough) but it wont take us to the next level of flightsimulation (IMO)

To your second point you hit the nail on the head. both Ivy and Haswell are dead platforms. My opinion pick the one that runs cooler and overclocks better. You might be able to save on the price of the motherboard.

   Any how best of luck!!!!
