June 18, 201312 yr I am very fond of live air traffic maps, especially for learning how arrivals and departures are handled by ATC and using that info in the sim. I found a neat little site, used mainly for folks living near KLAX to monitor noise levels in their neighborhood, that I find especially useful for planning my operations at KLAX in FSX. June 18, 201312 yr Very cool! Seems how I live in San Diego this is right in my back yard  Thanks - Martin
June 18, 201312 yr Author I'm glad you all like it. It seems there are quite a few of these kinds of flight trackers out there, but this one seems very special. I would think this kind of resource would be available for most any major airport with nearby towns that are sensitive to airport noise, it gives the resident easy access to determine what the offending aircraft is. This almost makes the private citizen feel like a highway patrolman with a radar gun, right? A.J. Domingo
June 18, 201312 yr Moderator Just for fun, here's a list of WebTrak Public Sites: http://webtrak.lochard.com/ Darn, there's no coverage for ORD which is what I'd be most interested in, given that I live in the area... :( Fr. June 18, 201312 yr Author Great find Fr. Bill, I knew that this app must be used for other airports, I just never bothered to look. It's interesting to know how real world traffic doesn't always fly the published STARS and IAPs as depicted on the charts, as ATC often gives shortcuts or vectors to adjust for traffic conditions as they see fit. These tools help us visualize these patterns, and apply it our sessions in the sim. A.J. Domingo
June 19, 201312 yr Moderator Well, since it is a "subscription service" that would cost the airport authorities some $$'s to use, I guess that explains why O'Hare isn't a customer. On the other hand, just how some of these really underused airports who are customers can justify the expense is a question best left unasked!I mean, come on! Just how much traffic do you suppose the rather pretentiously named "Southwest Florida International Airport" have every day! :LMAO: Fr.
