Semi-transparent cone extending from airport beacon

Featured Replies

I've done some searching and can't find any answers on this.  Not sure if it's just a DX10 issue, but the green and white rotating airport beacon has an annoying cone that extends from the light source and rotates around with the beacon.  Is this a known issue, and Is there any fix for this?

Thanks, no - that's the way it is, from the times I've looked at it. It's probably a texture that could need fixing I suppose, I don't know. Is it like this when using DX9?

It's like that in my DX10 and DX9 too.  I don't see anything wrong with it.  The beacon lights should extend out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerodrome_beacon.  There have been some requests by flight simmers to make them even brighter as they think the beacon lights in FSX are too weak.  For further research on beacon lights, do a search on the Internet for rotating airport beacon lights.  The beacon lights will extend out even more if there is fog in the area.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim, I'm a RW pilot so I am familiar with what an airport beacon is.  In all of my hours, including about 100 at night, I have never seen anything that resembles what is depicted in FSX.  I just think the effect is too strong maybe, I personally could do without that whole cone thing.  When approaching an airport's beacon, what you'll see is a momentary flash of light as the light passes in front of your field of vision, not a cone of light rotating around with the light.

Matt

This is not FSX.....I do think, however, that FSX does sometimes seem to try to reproduce what we would see in a film or photograph, rather than what the naked eye would see in real life.
