Slowing down the trim rates?

Featured Replies

I have my elevator trim set to a rocker switch on my yoke and the rudder and aileron trims set to an axis knob.  In most aircraft I fly, I find their rates to be hyper-sensitive does anyone know a plug in or a method of reducing their effectiveness?

Try to play with this dataref using Dataref Editor plugin sim/aircraft/controls/acf_elev_trim_speedrat

I think the default value is 64. A higher value will accelerate the trim ratio.

But the problem might be related to the switch itself. Someone else could explain that?

Thanks for that bit of information i can do a bit of experimentation which is something I have not done much of inside of XP.

What I find is even with exceptionally modeled payware is an axis like roll trim is hard for me to dial in.  If I need to apply it, any adjustment even slightly off center produces considerable banking action. I have never seen a need for more than about 1/10th the allowable travel on the axis.  I'm hoping to adjust the rate so it responds linearly at about 25% of what it is now.

It's times like these I miss FSUIPC.

I believe I have answered my own question through experimentation.  I can't say its the correct method or even a very elegant solution but it seems to be working. I'll explain what I did so that others will know or if more experienced XPlane users/ developers see this and have a different or better way perhaps they'll share it?

I took a model I was having difficulty trimming in this case the Dmax Blackshape Prime.  I had assigned the elevator trim to a rocker switch on my PFC yoke but each click of the switch created large deviations in trim setting so I was never able to dial it in easily.

I ended up opening the plane in Plane Maker and under the "Standard" drop down menu I selected "Control Geometry"  From there I selected the "Trim and Speed" tab then Increased the "Elevator Trim Deflection Time" setting and increased it from it's default setting of five ( I think it was five) seconds from center to either extreme to 12 seconds.

The only drawback I see to this is that the trim indicator light on the cockpit dash will show a full deflection when in fact its only about a third and I am assuming that's because it's programmed to be in sync with the default setting.

That's it... I just jumped in to answer, but noticed you had arrived there already :)

Plane Maker is a dream to use ( sometimes... ) ;-)
