Featured Replies

Is there any programs like REX for X-plane I like x-plane alot but the sky and cloud textures look like poo to be honest and I was wondering if there are any programs out there to make them look better.

There is a REX addon for X-plane 9 called Rexplane, but it is not compatible with XP-10, since XP10 has a very different way to render clouds.

Right now, there is nothing available that changes the cloud rendering mehod to make it compatible with a REX type method of clod rendering.  There are some freeware cloud textures, you can download, which IMO, make them look a lot better.

Since they are free, you can download a few of them and trythem out and see which ones you like best.

I understand your opinion of the curent clouds, Im was initially not a big fan of them, but in different times of the day, with the right settings, they can be amazing when flying through them. Other times, then don't look so good. Id love to see them extend to the horizon. Thats my biggest complaint about it.

+1.

The default clouds can look very good under the right conditions, but often they look subpar. One of my jobs for the weekend is to try some of the freeware packages.

As for stretching to the horizon, frankly I'd be happy if the horizon would stretch to the horizon:)

its not that the clouds them selves look that bad its that they have dark patches on them in the middle of the day I've spent a good bit of time in the air and have never seen that in real life

I personally found, that I liked the low-res cloud textures best for x-plane. (http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=18506)

It's right amount of blurry like in real life most of the time imo which makes them look realistic in sim aswell. In my opinion cloud edges are not that sharp as rex makes them in most situations atleast.

But that's just me, from what i've been looking at the clouds where i live :P
