Website access problem

Recommended Posts

Ready to pull the trigger on purchasing Opus - but could not access the website at all over this last weekend (?). Given this doesn't seem to have been an issue for others that I can see, I'm wondering if this is a repeat of this site being blocked by my ISP (iinet, Australia). I read a post about this being a problem earlier this year. As the mere customer (and would-be customer) in this situation, is there anything I can do?

I don't know if I can actually purchase from the Flight 1 site (which I have no trouble accessing) or whether they only provide the 'wrapper' and the download file is still sourced from Opus - but even if I could, I'm concerned that I will be unable to directly access the Opus site for subsequent support, guides and updates.

Any advice or clarification appreciated. Thanks

I had this issue back in April and am also with iinet. I found a similar thread about this issue on the Whirlpool forums and posted about it there.

An iinet rep responded and sorted it out. I'm not at home at the moment to check (although I'm sure it worked fine over the weekend) however when I get home later I'll check for you so see if the problem has returned.

Regards,
Serge

We are using shared servers provided by the largest UK ISP so it is strange that iinet would block all sites using this major ISP if they find a problem with one site on a shared server (if I understand correctly).

You can purchase via the Flight1 site but you are correct in your assumption that the download file is still sourced from the Opus website. Support is provided via our forums on Flight1 and AVSIM, or by emailing us. Guides are included with the software download.

I will contact iinet to see if we can resolve this issue once and for all. In the meantime I could email you the purchase file if you PM me your email address.

Cheryl

I have been reading about OpusFSX this afternoon and decided to download -

clicked the link got the unable to connect error message - several times

seems iiNet have done something again?

All my other external links are working fine.

I am a long term iinet customer and am not amused.

I have emailed iiNet about this problem so I will wait to see what they say, their approach does seem rather like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut in that they block all sites using a shared server.

I could email you the purchase file if you PM me but that is not the ideal solution. Hopefully they will lift the block ASAP.

Cheryl

Thanks I will be emailing them requesting an explanation as to the cause. iiNet are normally quite responsive soi I find this sort of approach (if accurate)  as you say a bit over the top to put it mildly. I think we all agree that emailing is not the best solution though like most I have read here, I am anxious to get my hands on your product.

Cheers

I have just checked from home and I can access the OPUS website fine with iinet. This doesn't appear to be the same problem as before (refer to link in my earlier post). For reference I am from Perth. Perhaps there is another issue here???

Perhaps your router or firewall is blocking access to our website for some reason. Have you tried accessing our website via a different PC or mobile device on your home network?

Thanks for the information Serge, I may have been a bit hasty in suspecting iinet was the problem here

Thanks for suggestions and related experiences. I wasn't blaming iinet, just seeking an explanation if anyone had any clues - but I had seen Serge's earlier posts.

I've tried with firewall turned off, but the story is the same.

I have also tried accessing the Opus site via my iPad on my home network - no luck. However the same device can access the site if tethered to my mobile phone (via a different provider).

Interested to hear if Uteman has any new info on this issue.

I've not used that software, if you open the Security Essentials program is there a blocked website section?

If you wish you can manually unblock our website using the host file on your computer. The Hosts file is located in C\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
Open the host file using Notepad or any other text editor and delete the reference to our website if it exists.

Still waiting from a response from iinet to see if they have any suggestions as to what the problem may be.

We are still waiting for a response from your ISP. Looks like they may keep blocking the BT Server for some reason, it hosts thousands of UK business websites.

Thanks Stephen.

I was wondering if the following link could be a reason why IInet has being putting in a block...am assuming this is the same BT.
