Sp2 causes BEX error

In post 13 I indicated there were pictures of BIOS in the Hardware Section.  I just looked and the topic is no longer pinned and probably hard to find.  You can find a lot of different configurations on the Internet on how to overclock the i5 2500K.  Here's one good one - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/01/07/how-to-overclock-the-intel-core-i5-2500k/.  Sorry for misleading you about the topic in the Hardware Forum.

No worries Jim :)
My BIOS settings are just set to the 'ASUS' optimal settings, this also happened with the default 'normal' settings.
I'm starting to get rather put out, what are other causes of the c0000005 error code? I've check sharing, access rights, drivers, UAC/DEP, OC settings, Graphics (with you advice which is very welcome and again thank you for your patience)

Edit:

AppCrashView showing: '0xc0000005' as the error code and cause of several crashes I had this afternoon playing games...starting to get worried.

Almost every crash will show an exception code of 0xc0000005, Memory Access Violation.  It could be caused by anything but most of the computer "experts" believe it is tied to a system memory problem or a bad system or hardware driver.  Even a bad video card driver or installation can cause it.

I was looking through our posts and see I didn't recommend you check for outdated drivers.  You can download a freeware program from the Internet that will scan you system and look for outdated drivers.  If it finds any that need updating, the program will offer to download and install the drivers if you purchase and register the software.  You can also look at the findings and do a search yourself on the Internet for the updated driver and install it yourself.  I use a program called Driver Scanner but there are many programs on the Internet that do the same thing.  At least it would not hurt to download and run a driver scanner just to see if you have any outdated drivers.

Anytime you have an unexplained crash it is always good to scan your system too using sfc \scannow - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm.  It will scan your system for any corrupted Windows files and, if any are found, it will replace them.

Sorry I didn't suggest these earlier.  I have been moderating other threads and thought I had made those recommendations to you too.

Best regards,

Jim

I've run DrivrScanner and the following are out of date:
USB Host controllers
USB 3.0 Root Hub and Host controller

Intel 7 Chipset (extension ports/ LPC controller/ SMBug controller)
Priocessor DRAM Controllers & PCI-E root port.
PCI bus

These either I have the latest from ASUS (board manufacturer) or there are no updates from what I can see.

The hardware side of it is:
Realttek PCIe Controller
TP Link Wireless Adapter
ASUS Xonar D1

The more confusing thing is that it worked, once after I updated my video drivers but has gone back to the same crash, also running checks on my two new sticks last night no errors and currently running on my two old sticks which I had no problems with, still getting the Appcrash error.

I just upgraded my ASUS MB for the new Haswell chipset and I had many of the same drivers out of date.  They are constantly being updated especially if bugs are found.

All I can say is there is no 'magic bullet' to get rid of the Exception Code 005.  You have to investigate until you find what caused it.  It's not exactly what caused the crash.  It's just a code that shows up if something else goes wrong with your system.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim, this is turning into a needle in a haystack I believe, only thing left todo I guess is to update all the drivers on that list. Otherwise I think it's a case of SP2 will not work on my system.

I'm pretty close to giving up on SP2/Acceleration ever working on my system (which is a huge shame).
But I havn't tried the Highmemfix or bufferpool .cfg tweaks yet (as I don't know how to use them) would this make a difference as it's a memory access problem?
Apart from this is a W7 repair installation/clean install my last resort?

The highmemfix=1 fix is actually a fix and not a tweak.  It missed making it into SP2/Acceleration.  The fix goes into the Graphics section of your Fsx.cfg.  I would stay away from Bufferpools settings until you get this problem fixed.

There is no known fix or magic bullet to stop memory access violations.  It can only be fixed through investigating possible causes and you have conducted a lot of investigations.  When you first installed FSX and ran it, it probably ran great with great fps.  Then you should have installed SP1 and, when you ran that, FSX ran even better.  Then you installed SP2 and the A2A program (I do not see that installed in any of your crash reports) and you got problems.  Unexplained problems.  According to your crash reports, SP2 installed properly and is running properly.  It has to be something else.  What else could cause a memory access violation or BEX error?  A bad tweak in your fsx.cfg or a bad setting but if you didn't make any tweaks or change any settings, then it must be a problem with your system drivers.  But you updated them and that didn't fix your problem.  If that didn't resolve the problem then it must be a bad memory setting in your BIOS or a bad overclock but you state you set the ASUS bios to the optimal or default settings and still you are having issues.  So, even if you reinstalled Windows and FSX, your problem would not be fixed.

Now, in Post#12 you have a lot of other non-FSX related errors going on that could be an issue with your installation of Windows 7 and those errors could be taking up resources that fsx would be taking.  Based on your crash reports, FSX SP2 is running and loading properly but those other Windows problems could be creating conflicts.  A bad install of your video card drivers could also create problems (unseen) and taking up more resources.  I would try uninstalling/reinstalling your video card too.

If all else fails, you will have to reinstall Windows and fsx.  If you reinstall FSX I suggest following the guide at this link - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.  The most important thing you must do when installing FSX is to load and run FSX when you install FSX Standard.  This allows the Fsx.cfg and other files to be built.  Fly around for a while and make some adjustments to your settings.  Then install SP1.  Once that's done, run FSX again and make sure it is running properly.  Then install SP2.

Sorry I could not find a solution to your problem.  I know how frustrating it is when you get these unexplained crashes and cannot find a fix.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,
I've found the source of my error, but not the fix.
I reinstalled my video driver (nVidia 320.49 (beta) latest driver) and it works! Right up until I reboot/turn off my pc, when I come back to play it it gives me the error. I tested this by reinstalling rebooting and trying to play which gave me the c000005 error. Then I reinstalled driver and just clicked play I'm now happily flying jets.

Does this mean I need to reinstall my driver everytime to play or is there something else going on? As far as I can tell the driver doesn't corrupt as it is fine on everything else.

The NVidia 320.49 beta drivers have been approved and are WHQL - http://www.geforce.com/drivers.  You should install the WHQL drivers whenever available.  Make sure you right click the driver exe program and run it as Administrator.  Sounds like something is not allowing you to completely install your display drivers.  Maybe an anti-virus program?  It shouldn't interfere.  I've never heard of a driver working only once.  However, your computer may not be identifying your video card when you shut down your computer and restart it.  It may not be properly seated in the Motherboard or connections to your monitor are loose.  In any case once the display drivers are installed that should be it.

Glad you found the Source of your errors.  Like I said it takes a lot of investigating to find the exact cause.  Sometimes a solution can be found immediately and sometimes never.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are a genuine nice guy and thank you for your support, advice and sticking through this problem with me.

I'll check it's setting, as far I can tell it is installed properly, I've posted on the nVidia forum and someone responded saying there is a problem with ASUS cards and to look for an 'update' sadly the latest ASUS update is from 2012 and is terrible for most 'new' games...I will post here with anything I find for anyone who has the same problem in the future.

Thanks for your kind comments.  I wish I had the solution to resolve all the problems!  I just bought the very expensive GTX 780 and so far no problems whatsoever. I hope there are no problems with the video cards!  I have not heard about any problems in the tech world about the Nvidia cards so hope you got some wrong info.

Best regards,

Jim

Well just tested it properly, reinstalled both ASUS and nVidia both crashed, so went back to the latest nVidia driver to support some other games I play, etc. booted up FSX before rebooting my PC and had a 3 hour flight in the A2A Spitfire (amazing plane, so hard to learn the quirks though).

Hope the 780 stays good for you Jim! Would love to upgrade to a better card sometime.

It's amazing how video card drivers can create so much havoc.  A lot of people fix their problems by going back to an earlier driver or reinstalling.  Hope it continues to work well for you.

I recently built a new system (see MyPC in the sidebar) and really haven't had any chance to check out my new GTX 780.  It has 3 fans on it so I suppose it must get hot.  I'm in the learning/OJT phases right now.

Best regards,

Jim
