When you did a repair install, it did not reinstall your video card drivers.  You need to reinstall the drivers too.  You will also have to run Windows Update.  It is possible a Windows Update caused your previous problem.  I have seen several issues when a person installs a Windows security update.  When Microsoft sees the problem they usually issue a fixed version but it may not have happened on your system.  Whenever you install Windows Update and then have problems right after the installation, you should immediately suspect one of those updates as the problem and uninstall those updates one at a time or click on restore your system to a date prior to the latest Windows Updates.  You can see what the updates were installed the latest by going to Windows Update and clicking on View Update History.

Best regards,

Jim

Huzzah finally it's working :)
Just reinstalled my video drivers inbetween installing FSX and Acceleration (went out and got the gold edition in the end as I was borrowing my brothers copy of fsx).

So if anyone else get's this issue it's a good sign to repair install windows and then reinstall you're drivers until it works is all I can really say.

Jim you're a god send for all your help and input, thank you very much.

Yeah! Good for you.  No one likes to reinstall or do a repair but, in the end, that usually is the best course of action.

Best regards,

Jim
