The max Virtual Address Space (VAS) limit in FSX (a 32-bit program) is 4GB IF you are running a 64 bit OS (you have Windows 7, 64 bit so you are). Any memory above that will be used by installed hardware and the OS (so this is good as FSX and FSX addons might get to use up to 4GB.  On a 32 bit OS (like Windows 7, 32 bit), only 4GB of VAS can be used including space for the OS.  So that's not good in that FSX might see up to 3GB's and the OS and hardware will use the rest.

In your situation, FSX can use up to 4GB of VAS and the other two GB's will be used by hardware and the OS....

You can check the amount of VAS being used by your computer while running FSX by running Process Explorer - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx.  Right click on Process and the Select Columns... Once Select Columns is open, click on Process Memory tab and select Virtual Size, click OK and you should now have a TAB show virtual size for FSX (once it is running) on the main page.  You can also see what other apps/processes are running that are taking up VAS.

When you mentioned "upgrading my computer", did you mean purchase a new computer? That I cannot do.

I understand.  Just a suggestion.  I have no idea what your computer specs are.

Best regards,

Jim

I tried what you suggested but it does not have the descriptions how to do it like you mentioned above.  I did a screenshot but again AVSIM is not letting me insert.  I add the image and select attach as file and then it comes back  "No file selected"

It did show the attachment after all.

See the line where it says Process  CPU  Private Bytes?  That's a menu bar and, if you right click Select Columns...  Once that is open you'll see a tab for Process Memory.  Open that tab up and select Virtual Size.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with the AVSIM upload service.  I have no control over that or else I would help.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

Attached is a screenshot of the Process Memory/Virtual.  I don't know how to read this or what to look for.  I noticed it keeps scrolling, I quess with new information?

The one thing too that happens when FSX has fatal crashes,  It will state when FSX reboots that I can get "SmartAssembly", which I did install, twice.  But for some reason it keeps posting the same thing after a fatal error.

Cray Foley

This is unreal.  I'm getting bits and pieces from you every day.  SmartAssembly indicates you have a problem with Microsoft.net which is required to properly run FSX.  Most likely you need Microsoft.net 3.5 and the SP1 to 3.5.  To run FSX properly, you need Microsoft.net versions 1.1 thru the latest (think 4.5).  You can look in C:\Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\(then the versions) to see if all are installed.  But even if they look like they are all installed, they may be missing components and there is a verification tool that you can use to check to make sure you have everything properly installed at this link - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx.  This link will also provide you a link to where you can download the missing parts.

You need to run FSX and look at how much VAS is being used.  The VAS is located in the far right column.  If you want to know how many gigabytes you are using, you should go to the following site and type in the amount of Kilobytes you see in the far right column and have it converted to gigabytes - http://www.thebyteconverter.com/.  This is just one site that does this.  There are many more on the Internet.  You can then see what is taking up all of your memory and causing FSX to crash.  For instance, you have a heck of a lot of non-essential stuff running in the background that shouldn't be running while using FSX.  Look at the Hewlett Packer Advisor.  Lots of KB's being used there.  Carbonite is taking up a lot too.  AOL, Music Manager, Snipping Tool, Firefox, RealNetworks, your Epson EventManager (for your scanner?).  Music Manager by Google?  The hpwuSchd Application by HP.  Do not mess around with Couatl or UT2Services though.  There are some FSX utilities that shut down some of these non-essential services during your FSX sessions.  Unfortunately I cannot name any other than Alacricity(SP?) comes to mind.  I have never used one so cannot advise any further.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

Thanks for the information.  I went ahead and uploaded the lastest Smartassembly from the link you sent, but the fatal error still came back with the "Smartassembly" is available message.  Maybe that is a generic notification when it crashes, whether I have the latest or not.    Attached is what I have installed.  I also tried again the Process memory.  I still cannot figuire what the problem may be.

Sincerely,
Cray

I did not see it was cut off.  here is the other side:

Other half. Does not want to seem to post.

Your dotnet installations appear to be properly installed.  Your versions match my versions installed.  The only difference I see is that the file netfxsbs12.hkf on my computer is dated 6/21/2013 whereas yours is dated 6/6/2012.  Make sure you are periodically running Windows Update.  The only thing I can say about your Process Explorer is that you have a lot of unneeded software running.  If you started up Calculator (Start Button, All Programs, Accessories, Calculator), and added up everything in the right hand column, you would see you have a lot of memory being used while you are using FSX.

Have you ever turned off your Startup Programs?  You should do that as most are not needed (well all of them are not needed but developers use it to start up their program so it can monitor your system and then look for updates occasionally for your program and stuff like that.   Go to the Start button, click on All Programs, then Accessories, then Run....  In the Run command box, type msconfig then enter.  Go to the Startup Tab and then click Disable All and then Okay.  It will ask you to restart your computer.  Now this won't wipe out any of the entries in the Start tab so you can go back there and restart whatever you want sometime in the future.  You just need to see if any of the Startup programs are the issues causing you the problems.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

Thanks once again for your help, and most of all, your patience with me.

I did try something yesterday in Windows 7 msconfig to disable at the start up, but it disabled too much, I could not even get on the internet, so I reset it back for now.

How do you update netfsxbs12.hkf?  I do have automatic Windows Updates set as "on" in my control panel, so I do get all the updates for Windows.

Sincerely,

Cray

I'm not sure why you could not get on the Internet.  Perhaps an AOL thingy.  But still it should not be needed.  Nothing in the Startup area needs to be there.  All convenience stuff (for the manufacturers).  If you want to get on the Internet you should just have to click on the AOL icon on your desktop.  If you call a computer professional, say a Dell technician, or the Geek Squad, they will tell you to disable all of your startup programs and see if the issue continues.  If it continues, then that's not causing your crashes.  But, if it does stop your crashes, then one or all of your startup programs are causing problems.  You could try disabling everything except the startup for AOL.

I do not know how to update that file.  You probably do not need to update it but the link I provided to the Microsoft.net verification tool might find one of your dotnets improperly installed and it will tell you which one and provide a link to the update.

If you do not shut down the non-essential programs through the Startup menu, then I'm afraid you do not have enough resources to run FSX addons and will have to just run the default FSX.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

Thanks for the info.  I only need the internet so I can get FSX's live weather feature, other than that, I would not need it when using FSX.   I updated my system with the Microsoft.NET repair site.  I will have to look further into what can be disabled and how to do it without making a mess out of it.

Sincerely,

Cray

I have a FIOS account with Verizon.  All I do is install Windows and click on my Internet Explorer icon and I can immediately go to my home page of AVSIM.com.  I have never used AOL but they are very complicated IMHO as I have a couple of friends who use it (plus AOL HQ is about 15 miles from my house at next to Dulles).  You have to log into them first to prove you are a member before you can go to the Internet icon and surf the Internet.  My FIOS cable modem knows I am authorized to be on the Internet automatically and I have absolutely no one I have to sign in with before I can use the Internet.  I just have to own the modem.

Even though you are not signed into AOL, you should still be able to get weather updates from a weather programs server.  Perhaps this is really what is causing all of your problems.

Jim

Jim,

I only use AOL for email.  My internet connection is with AT&T high speed wireless internet.

Hi Cray,

Well then, you should disable everything in your startup program tab except AT&T and maybe AOL.  But then, there is no need for them to be required to start up whenever you turn your computer on.  If you want to do e-mail, you just doubleclick on the AOL icon or the AT&T connection should be just like my connection with FIOS.  Just click on the Internet Explorer icon (that will take you to MSN.com which you really don't want to visit - ).

Jim

Jim,

That is strange,  I don't even see AT&T in my programs.  Attached is what I have in my start up programs.  I actually feed of my brothers computer wireless who has AT&T. Could that be why it is not there?
