August 6, 201312 yr I don't know, don't think so actually because there is no "K" behind it. Is this a bad sign, I'd rather not OC because I'm not an expert at it ! Heard FSX is pretty much CPU dependant, is system 2 per definition better or should I just go for system 1? Don't worry about not being an expert. I'm not an OC expert but got mine up to 4.4 (stock 3.3) and no problem. You have a couple topics here on how to overclock the Haswell CPU, plus there is toms hardware. And yes fsx is CPU dependant that's why you need a higher clock for better performance
August 7, 201312 yr Thanks for your comments so far! Do you guys think the i7 system Will be "much" better than the i5 system since the price difference is only €23 in favour of the i5? Best regards, Joey Zijdel
August 7, 201312 yr Author Hello Mr. Zijdel: Before I continue ... am I missing something ... an Intel Core i5-4570 Haswell 3.2GHz is $199.99 and an Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) is $289. Anyway ... the extra 4GB of RAM ... strictly from a FSX perspective doesn't buy you much but the extra .2 GHz can buy you a little more. My advice is to drop the RAM to 2 sticks of 4GB DDR3 1600 (assuming your MoBo has 4 slots this gives you an upgrade path to 16GB in the future if you desire). Forget the unclocked processors and go for the Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) and overclock it into the low 4GHz range. I've read that many FSX users use the overclocked Ivy Bridge and are very happy with the performance. Which is exactly what I recommend in the Gamer Basic OC build below. To be absolutely honest, if I had the opportunity to go back in time and reorder all my parts for my upcoming build on Friday ... I would have saved about $1,200 and built the Gamer Basic OC instead of the Gamer Maximus. Just my 2 cents worth. C. T.
