July 18, 201312 yr My friend works for united and sent me some pics of their new B737-800 aircraft 277 N37277 at PAE (Boeing Everett Factory) ….now fitted with the Split Scimitar Winglets….reported to save over 45, 000 gallons of jet fuel per aircraft per year. 2500 lbs. + payload increase… at a half million to each aircraft, service vehicles make me cringe lol
July 18, 201312 yr Looks a bit odd to me, but who am I to argue with those fuel savings! On the topic of service vehicles, I wouldn't be too worried about that, they shouldn't really be anywhere near the wings, there's typically a cone out to get them to drive around the aircraft. July 19, 201312 yr That AC is at least 9 years old according to Airliners dot net. They are just using this aircraft for the initial testing of the new winglet. Although in the future they do plan to receive new 737s with the split scimitar winglets.
