October 27, 200421 yr Have I missed something along the way or are the phases of the moon portrayed incorrectly in FS9? I don't normally fly at night so probably explains why I have not noticed this before :(I was out earlier this evening and the moon was/is full but in the sim it is only a half moon. Things are slightly better in FS2002 in that it is portrayed as a gibbous moon.BTW I'm surprised nobody has commented about Carmine D'Amore's tweaked Night Time fixes. They really do add another dimension to the experience of flying at night. So much more realistic and I recommend you all give them a try. The files are:'fs2004nt.zip' and 'fs2004nt1.01update.zip' - both are in the Avsim file library.Mike
October 27, 200421 yr Thanks for the support Mike! I am also working to find time to finish up some updates like choosing the airport light dimming you want as well as an amber colored dimmer landing light. Take care and like Mike said, in case some of you missed they are in the library.Carmine http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/Images/wave.gif
October 27, 200421 yr >BTW I'm surprised nobody has commented about Carmine D'Amore's>tweaked Night Time fixes. I will try them tonight! As to the Moon in FS2004 - it only gets updated in FS2004/2 every so often so if you check the phase tomorrow or next day it will finally be Full. October 27, 200421 yr WHoa I need to check out that night-time fix! Thanks for telling us about it and thanks to the author too :)I dont like the default moon in FS2004, it looks like something out of a bad cartoon.
October 27, 200421 yr I tried it and I love it. I only enabled the feature that darkens the clouds and make horizon invisible. Very well done. Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2, Omega 2.7.90 (4xAA 16xAF) Michael J.
October 27, 200421 yr "I was out earlier this evening and the moon was/is full "Actually tonight (Oct. 27) is the full moon and also a total lunar ecclipse, so keep an eye on the moon tonight!David
October 28, 200421 yr Author Thanks for pointing this addon out! I tried it and it is great. No more glowing clouds. Thanks Carmine! ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
October 28, 200421 yr There was a lunar eclipse last night. Both solar and lunar eclipses are accurately replicated...uh...I mean, simulated in FS9.I was flying last night myself an approach to Malta and was reminded of the eclipse by the view of the moon in the sim. I hit pause and went out and enjoyed a few minutes of the eclipse for real.
October 28, 200421 yr Howdy,>I dont like the default moon in FS2004, it looks like>something out of a bad cartoon.Do a search of the AvSim library for HDMoon.zip by Izuru Yokomi. Absolutely stunning.
October 28, 200421 yr >There was a lunar eclipse last night. Both solar and lunar>eclipses are accurately replicated...uh...I mean, simulated in>FS9.I highly doubt it. First, FS9 doesn't even replicate moon phases - they only change moon phase every week or so (so very often you don't see correct Monn in FS9). So given this crudness there is hardly a room for any eclipse simulation.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2, Omega 2.7.90 (4xAA 16xAF) Michael J.

October 28, 200421 yr Author Yeah I saw a half moon last night and thought it might be the eclipse too. I think it was just a coincidence. It just happened to show the wrong phase. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
October 28, 200421 yr You bet, it was wrong phase, not eclipse.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2, Omega 2.7.90 (4xAA 16xAF) Michael J.
October 28, 200421 yr Ok. Well, I know in at least the previous version of FS that I owned before FS9, FS2000, if there was an eclipse occurring in the real world, you could see it in the sim. A perfect example was the wonderful partial solar eclipse on Christmas day, 2001 (I think). It was visible in the northern hemisphere (I live in Northern NJ). It was also replicated nicely in FS2000.I've been too busy flying FS9 to really keep up with eclipses. However, I would have thought that this nice touch would have carried forward in subsequent versions.Ed Lin
