July 26, 201312 yr That EVA seems to have a good safety record but I am thinking that the economic growth in Asia is outpacing the speed to train people in their jobs. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
July 26, 201312 yr At least they didn't waste time initiating a go-around and they seem to have had their speed under control (unlike Asiana). Were they on the ILS approach and if not, how badly to you have to mess up your visual approach to be at 600' below the glideslope at that point? That EVA seems to have a good safety record but I am thinking that the economic growth in Asia is outpacing the speed to train people in their jobs. It's hardly just an Asian problem, the Colgan Air crash at Buffalo, Turkish at Schiphol, AF447, and Afriqyah at Tripoli have all been at least partially linked to training AFAIK, at least part of it related to wrong philosophy in training design ('jetliners don't get into stalls,' pilots know how to recover from stalls from their basic training anyway, and the power out of the (approach to) stall with minimum loss of altitude focus) John-Alan Pascoe

The other one that comes to mind is Lionair. They currently have 535 aircraft on order. It is one thing to purchase 535 aircraft and another thing to hire and train a competent roster. We live in the age of the emerging economies so finding experienced people is increasingly difficult. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Taiwan has has very similar problems to South Korea in terms of culture and corrupt training. Remember China Airlines had a lot of mishaps and accidents. That EVA seems to have a good safety record but I am thinking that the economic growth in Asia is outpacing the speed to train people in their jobs. Japan doesn't have the problems that Taiwan and South Korea have. Japan has always thrived on quality. And Japan takes a very dim view on corrupt behaviour.
