July 27, 201312 yr I noticed on two separate landings that after I went to idle reverse and then tried to deactivate the autobrakes by tapping the foot brakes as I always did in Boeings, nothing happened. I use a keyboard and have always used the FSX default brake keys * and - on the numeric keypad. They seem to work correctly on taxi before takeoff but after landing they won't activate. I checked my brakes and hydraulics and all was in order so I am puzzled. I had to set parking brakes and then unset them in order to cancel the autobrakes from holding the plane at stop. But then as I accelerated to exit the runway, I had no brakes at all, and again, after checking the synoptics and brake gauge everything showed as normal. I parked at the gate, saved the situation and then reloaded it and everything again was functional? To eliminate the possiblity that this was just an FSX fluke, I rebooted and reflew the flight and ended up with the same scenario after slowing on the runway. The only thing I didn't tried was to retract spoilers while slowing on the runway. Will that also de-activate autobrakes or must I go into the panel and select them to off? There is no option for a keyboard control key to do this. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions or workarounds?
July 27, 201312 yr Will they not disengage when you bring the throttles back to idle/small forward thrust? Peter Peter Schluter
July 27, 201312 yr Again very weird bug you got there Craig. I guess that has something to do with the problem you have with releasing your parking brake by pressing the brakes. On my system I can disarm the autobrake just fine by tapping the brake paddles just slightly. I guess something is interfering with that command on your system. Can you check if you have the . (accidentally) assigned to another function too? Do you have any programs running in the background which may filter out that button? Best regards, Jonathan John Rubens
July 27, 201312 yr Author @ Peter! No they would not. Again I did not add forward thrust since I was slowing to exit. Normally I disconnect autobrakes at about 35-40K and use manual braking to slow for exit. There should not be a need to ADD power. I gather from your response, however, that you have not experienced the issue. Of course if you are using a controller for brakes and not keyboard you may not have the problem. @ Jonathan! No the brakes worked fine before the flight but after the Autobrakes, spoilers, and reversers were activated on touchdown, I no longer had use of * and - on the numberpad for braking. Those are the keys that are mapped to manual brakes through FSX and there is nothing in PMDG or any other program I am running that has that mapping. I did state that I had the problem twice and though I had rebooted my computer and restarted FSX btween flights I was reloading the same flight from midflight. Could have just been something glyched with that flight. Seems you don't have the same problem, Jonathan. Unless you are using different keys for braking(?)
July 27, 201312 yr Author I think I have found a possible solution to this continuous brake issue: I have always paused the simulation as soon as I bring the reversers to idle but while still operating autobraking on the runway. I then save the flight and replay the last 100 seconds of the landing and touchdown to critique myself. You know us old pilots, our egos are all tied up in our landing technique! LOL Anyway, this time I reflew the last portion of the flight and did not pause until I was stopped on the exit and everything (brakes included) performed according to the numbers. Must be something about the pausing while autobrakes are still on that messes up this particular simulation. Never had a problem with any other complex simulation. I hope that my success was indicative that this is the solution rather than just a fluke. Anyone else experienced a similar correlation? I thank all of you for your help and advise. I am off to try another landing to verify my results.
