August 1, 201312 yr I have quite a heavy testflight through a narrow valley in Norway with lots of trees. With DX9 and high settings I am noticing performance isn't optimal and when I look at the fps I notice it is somewhere between 20 and 23 instead of my max of 30. With DX10 (which I am testing once more...) I notice performance is smoother and when I check fps I see it's stable at 30. Great, you would say! Well, no, not really, because the textures are being loaded later and quite obvious too. The flight takes me through narrow valley which makes it easy to see when the textures get loaded and with DX9 the textures are loaded in front of me (something like 100 to 200 meters ahead) but with DX10 the highest res textures only get loaded when I pass them. So the overall feel of everything is a bit blurry all the way. Now all this is without a lower FFTF setting (because that would only make things worse!). I tried to change the bandwidth but that didn't make a difference. I use bufferpools=0 in both configurations and I don't have any other performance tweaks active. I do use the highmemfix. What could be causing this...? This is the first time I actually notice DX10 performs smoother but those late loading textures really spoil it.

August 1, 201312 yr At a first glance, Jeroen (I have to leave shortly), just a few minor changes: TBM for this proc and 580 combi ought to be at least 80: ForceFullScreenVSync=1 *** Remove this*** as "1/2 RR" and "Standard" in Inspector, combined with DisablePreload=1 in [Main] fixes the Vsync issue. CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=7 Try water effects at 5 (back to 6 if there's any flashing) AirlineDensity=20 -> one or the other: i.e. GA or AI, but make it 25, or even 30 GADensity=20 -> as above TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=28AUTOGEN_DENSITY=4 you should be able to use FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.2 (in [Main] TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=907 (Add to [Terrain]) TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1376 (Add to [Terrain]) SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=3 (Add to [Terrain]) Inspector looks fine, with the exception that I don't enable FXAA. Hope this helps! i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
August 1, 201312 yr Thanks for the help, Paul! Much appreciated! But apart from the textures still loading quite late, things don't look the same anymore, which of course is logical since the autogen has been dimished by a factor 4 or something like that. ^_^ Lowering the max autogen using those max-lines to a third of the default amount AND lowering the setting to Dense are huge steps! And still, as I said, the textures are clearly loading later than they do with DX9, which remains rather odd... But anyway, if these steps are necessary to get DX10 working better, I rather stick with DX9 and full autogen (not limited and extremely dense), even though fps is lower and performance (at least in my heavy test scenario) isn't optimal (but still flyable). ^_^
August 1, 201312 yr is bufferpools=1 or 0 a better setting? because I'm currently using 1 ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU
August 1, 201312 yr is bufferpools=1 or 0 a better setting? because I'm currently using 1 Lol, now also hijacking this topic? There are a lot of topics about bufferpools, if your GPU can handle it, you can use usepools=0. If you get artifacts, turn it back on. Please read some guides here on AVsim, it's been covered everywhere. @JvanE: Autogen is up to you, if your system can handle it, just run it without those lines in your config. Those are not a must and i don't think it is the main reason for your issue. Did you run the alphachecker/mipsmaps thingy and DXT fixer already? Because maybe those things can cause loading issues. August 1, 201312 yr Just got back: the problem, Jeroen, is a 4.5-GHZ proc... Moving that to 4.8 (I'm not suggesting you do it) would ease the issue, make it less noticeable, perhaps., but my 5.0 GHz and a 780 still has issues with load: the fact remains - FSX is quite capable of killing the cpu at the speeds we run at, and mostly it's due to the fact that, over the years, everyone in the sim-world has demanded backward compatibility, with Microsoft doing just that - and until the sim is rebuilt OR Intel comes up with a magic 8-GHz proc (ain't gonna happen) every setting we make or change is always a compromise. Those settings which I've suggested, should ease that load somewhat, hopefully to get rid of the "imminent blurries" problem; if it doesn't - then revert back, and try something else. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

August 1, 201312 yr This one is pretty good for a 4.5-gig system: It seems that these settings are very subjective, as the differences are sometimes not even visible, even at close range, and that arriving at a "set of settings" which is visually appealing, while giving good performance, is dependent upon SO many factors. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
August 2, 201312 yr Do you guys also notice that when flying over areas with trees and cities/towns also tend to "pop-in" as the plane is flying closer to those areas? I also get this problem. It's never pre-loaded ahead of time. Even though my LOD_RADIUS is set to 8.5 Yea, autogen works different from texture loading. It's been implemented this way, and it is a pain and immersion killer. LOD_RADIUS doesn't have an effect on autogen, there is nothing you can do about that. Mark

True... it will always be all about compromises indeed. I will check out the other Inspector settings you posted and see if they make a difference. Jeroen, I noticed you have AA overide in NVISP, but in your fsx cfg you have AntiAlias=1 Yes, correct, but (oddly enough) that's how it's done in the DX10 guide... so that's why I also did it. Seems to be mandatory to get things working! For DX9 I also use override but with AA unticked in FSX.
August 2, 201312 yr EDIT Never mind the long story I posted: short version is that I am back to DX9 LOL Thanks for the help anyway!
