Using Radar Contact with MCE?

Featured Replies

I have read that Radar Contact is about the best program for controlling AI around the airports. I have used a combination of AI Smooth and AI separation for some time, which is ok but there's always room for improvement. Apparently RC spreads, slows, and directs them much more realistically.

BUT - my reason for this post - I am more than happy with the features of MCE, especially the voices, and believe it or not, the default ATC voices.

Does anyone else use RC with MCE? Offline with AI as opposed to online?

Is it possible to opt out of the voice features of RC, sticking with MCE and using RC for the AI control & other selected features chosen by me?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

No, it's not possible.

Besides, no matter what people say, RC4 voices are quite good. And there is the possibility to replace them if you wish.

What MCE does, is give RC4 a speech reco interface. You talk to controllers using the mike instead of pressing keyboard keys.

You cannot mix and match RC4 AI with native ATC audio. You either run one or the other alongside MCE.

OK, thanks for the reply.

Do you really think the voices are quite good though? The ones in MCE I think are very good, but in all the demo clips of RC4 that I have looked at, the voices are too disjointed or robotic and spoil the immersion for me. It is the only thing putting me off, and I don't like criticising it as it looks like a superb piece of software.

If the voices were of the same standard as Travis then I would reconsider but I can only be honest and say I have not seen enough evidence of that.

I'm not saying they sound very sharp, just that they are acceptable for what they are supposed to be. If they were recorded in 44 KHZ stereo, it wouldn't be realistic either.

You can't really compare because MCE voices (Travis, Andy, Clive, WIlliam, Jean-Claude, and soon to be added Dieter) are recorded in 22 KHz 16 Bit sample rate whereas RC4 recordings are supposed to be radio type at 11 KHZ 8 bit and are edited to add radio noise on purpose.

I believe you can replace the 10 voices with others part of a package called "meatweather" (i hope it's the correct spelling) available for free from the Avsim library.

For what it's worth, William, one of our virtual FOs is in the process of finishing a voice pack that can be used with RC4 for situations where you hand over the comms to FO. Hopefully one more will follow.

As far as controllers are concerned you'd be hearing the RC4 provided voices or their replacement files, if any.

OK, thanks again for the reply, I might investigate other voices/RC4 at some point - but for now I have just dropped AI separation & adjusted AI smooth and actually seen some more improvement around the runways, which is my mission at the moment & was my main reason for looking at RC4 (despite it being just a tiny part of what it does by the looks of it).

And thanks for the continued support of MCE, a great program :)

Hello,

search for "meatwater vocpack" here in the avsim library.

Then you will get 10 parts (v2).

You need all of them

John & asanal, thanks for your comments, I have just downloaded one of the 10 packs & listened to some of them (pilots), and I might be converted :)

I'll download some more and listen to some ATC clips, if they are that good, it may well seal the deal.

(that is an incredible amount of work by 'Meatwater' offered for free, all credit to him).

Thanks,

Keith
