November 2, 200421 yr Hello,I couldn't decide between USA Roads and AD Roads (rails, streams, etc.), so I ended up getting AD since I don't actually fly VFR that much anyway. (why spend $30 for something you rarely pay attention to?)However, now that I have them I do enjoy having them around, and may someday decide to get USA Roads as well, not so much for the accuracy, but for the nicer-looking textures. However, one downside to both products is that the roads are drawn over the scenery textures, so with all roads turned on, it makes densely populated areas look like there's a net over the city or something. On the other hand, with only major roads turned on, you miss a lot in the rural areas. So anyways I was wondering if it is at all feasible to one day consider an option to display all roads in most areas, while at the same time only the major roads in congested areas.I don't know the technical feasibility of this, nor how much demand there would be for such a feature, but I figured if I don't at least ask about it, then there's no chance of it ever happening at all. For me (I can't speak for anyone else), if USA Roads included this feature, it would make the $30 worth it.I know the devs of both products visit this forum which is why I posted this request here. If it is in the wrong area, please let me know and/or move the thread.
November 2, 200421 yr From a quick look at USARoads, it appears that most roads, both major and all, are set at layer 7, and a few a layer 8 (I assume these are "pseudo" bridges. To do what you want, I think the best approach would be to use a different layer for the major roads. Then anyone could exclude the non-major roads where desired. That way, you wouldn't be tied to a particular landclass.scott s..
November 2, 200421 yr Having purchased both products, USA roads is much more suited for what you have requested. Their major roads implementation is much better than AD roads as they seem to use traffic density as a means to determine "major" or "minor" whereas AD roads uses only road size.As a result, near my house, many two lane roads, that are considered "minor" by AD roads are drawn by USA roads because they are frequently travelled.I have been a strong supporter of AD roads, and Scenery Solutions may even say I have a bias towards the American Data product. However, for your needs, I think if you buy USA roads, and do major roads only you will still be VERY pleased in how it looks. I used major roads exclusively because of the "net effect" you speak of. I don't notice the "net effect" as much in AD roads as they are darker and tend to blend in more. There is also another texture set created by someone in the community that darkens the USA roads, so that helps to.As someone who bought both and can see the strengths in both products, I think you will be happy with USA roads, either in it's major only option, or the alternate textures you can find on AVSIM or other areas.
November 2, 200421 yr Enhancement package just released for USA Roads now gives the option to dim down considerably the daytime road textures thus eliminating the "net" effect. It also now allows you to stop roads from crossing over the water.EDIT: This is an offical enhancement package from the developer, not a user addon. Eric
