PMDG Product Purchasing Question

Featured Replies

After 15 years of low and slow rubber-necking in the MS Flight Simulator world I’m getting the bug to challenge myself with learning to fly the 737NGX. Up till now the only jet I have spent a lot of time with is the F1 Citation Mustang (and I do like it).

I’ve downloaded the 737 PDF’s from PMDG’s site and have started working my way into them. I’ve also been  lurking the “General” and “737” forums here the past week or two.

Regarding purchasing: Is the download of the software a “wrapper” type of delivery system? I suspect not as they refer to an extended download service which tends to make me think I will be able to back up the initial D/L to disc for future re-install if necessary and re-activate it with a code of some sort.

I’m awaiting delivery of a new desktop in another week or so and just getting things lined up.

Thanks.

PMDGs installers are just a plain ole .exe where you enter your serial key and then install the product.

Like you did mention in your post, make sure you back up your downloads so you don't have to pay $4.99 in order to reinstall in the future.

Hope that helps!

Frank,

I also made a transition from Mustang to NGX. It was a bumpy rode, but if you enjoy reading the manuals, you should have no problems.

NGX is a wonderfully complex behemoth :-)

Plain and ole, that's me. Patiently reading and re-reading the manuals is a means to an happy ending.

Now that I'm retired, I've got more time.

Thanks fellas.

I wrote the tutorials for someone exactly like you Frank - go to those (and the Intro manual) first - don't try to go straight into the FCTM and FCOMs.

That's the best advice, but I consider those manuals as well :-)

When I started learning the NGX, I read the intro, not understanding half of it. I flew your tutorial, landed by some accident in Amsterdam and Innsbruck. Then I flew some 200 hours on VATSIM and read FCOMv2 on my KSFO-EDDM flight.

NGX now makes much more sense. I have finally enabled failure modes today and am expecting even more fun in the next weeks and months.

What a joy :-)

A couple of tutorial flights and you should be up and running no problem. The 737NG is probably the most user friendly airplane out there, everything ¨makes sense¨ when you start learning about the systems and the FMC is super easy to use, it has a simple logic that once you pick up it becomes a natural thing to program.

Maybe its the very long time this airplane has been available it has gotten improved so much over its long history that now its a beauty and very close to being perfect.

This airplane should be in everybody´s virtual hangar.
