August 29, 201312 yr Me thinks you're misreading what the OP says, Jim. First screen was his \S\G\s folder, second is for the \S\W\s folder, where all developers (except me!) like to dump their altitude modification files.
August 29, 201312 yr You're right. Sorry for the confusion. I have to remember to read ALL sentences in a paragraph.... Thanks for the clarification. August 30, 201312 yr Author Meshman, Thanks! I changed the file like you suggested and the mesh resolution is now fixed. So I can go ahead and just delete that file? Now I need to go back and fix my other problems, slow frame rates and fatal error crashes. Cray Foley
August 31, 201312 yr Author I discovered a pattern with my FSX default airport frame rates. Over the months last spring I purchased several add-on airports and three of them I disabled due to extremely taxing frame rates. One was KSFO, KJFK and KMIA. I disabled all three, but the frame rates were still bad when they had not been poor before I installed the addons. When I was troubleshooting my PMDG 747-8, I gave up using KSFO because of the frame rate issue. I decided to use the FSX default EDDF to test the 747 just for the heck of it and the frame rates were smooth as silk! The frame rates are still bad with FSX's KMIA and KJFK, even though I disabled the add on airports. Before I had the addons, all these airports frame rates were fine. It is as though the addons some how contaminated the FSX default airports with problems even after disabling. In the case with KSFO addon, I completely deleted it from FSX, but still has bad frame rates. I did fix the mesh issue with KSFO, but the frame rates are terrible for some reason, but airports where I never had an addon are fine. I can't figure out why. Cray Foley
August 31, 201312 yr I've been saying for a long time now that fsx works great when you first install fsx and Acceleration too. Then you start adding things like, aircraft, scenery, and stuff and start tweaking the fsx.cfg and things start going south after that. All of the commercial addons are frame-rate unfriendly because they contain a lot more eye-candy than what the Microsoft team thought most users could handle. This is why a lot of flight simmers have upgraded their rigs to the most powerful system out there. Some developers have installed programs whereby you can turn on or off some of the eye-candy. I have no idea how powerful your system is but if you are having issues at KSFO and other FSDT airports, you need to upgrade your computer system. August 31, 201312 yr Author Jim, But what I cannot figure out even though I disabled the addons, why are they still causing problems with the FSX default airports where the addons were placed after being removed? Do they leave a software bug? I do have an HP Pavilion with Athlon II X 4 630 Processor 2.8-Gz 64 bit operating system. I Also have SP2. I don't have acceleration though. Does Acceleration help? I originally purchased the FSX Deluxe Edition. Sincerely,Cray Cray Foley
August 31, 201312 yr But what I cannot figure out even though I disabled the addons, why are they still causing problems with the FSX default airports Hi Cray, It must be your fsx.cfg. Do you have the BufferPools "tweak". That does not work for everyone. This is why I say a lot of people fix their problems simply by rebuilding their Fsx.cfg. Some of these tweaks simply do not work for everyone. Personally I use no tweaks other than I changed the LOD_Radius from a max of 4.5 to 6.5 and set the Texture_Max_Load setting from 1024 (default) to 2048 (which is HD). August 31, 201312 yr Author JIm, What is a LOD_Radius? Is it in FSX menu? I am hoping to fix the frame rate issue that cropped up after deleting the add on. it is strange how it effects that. I regret now of ever purchasing add on airports because the FSX airports worked fine until I installed an add on and then deleting it does not help. SincerelyCray Cray Foley
August 31, 201312 yr What is a LOD_Radius? Is it in FSX menu? Yes, it's under the Scenery tab. Top item. In the fsx.cfg, it's called the LOD_Radius. I have mine set higher than the max for fsx as my system can handle it. Do you have any scenery addons in the Addon_Scenery folder? It's the only thing I can think of that would be loading. Back in the old days, with FS 2004 (FS9), you could simply remove the scenery.dat files from each scenery folder and they would be rebuilt but that doesn't happen in FSX. They aren't there. Scenery just does not load if it is disabled in the Scenery.cfg/Scenery Library. FPS will also be affected if you are flying any of the high quality aircraft like the PMDG737. I know in the VC of my PMDG737 the fps drop at around 32-40 but when I go to wing view, the fps are near and sometimes go over 100. I have noticed too that when in Windowed Mode, the fps are the worst and they double and almost triple when I go to full screen mode. It's amazing the difference. That's most likely caused by my Nvidia 780 GTX video card as I didn't see that dramatic change with my previous card. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 31, 201312 yr Author Jim, These are the only items in that folder. I also checked my level of radius and it is already at the max of "large". I tested other non PMDG aircraft at KSFO but the framerates are still poor. Cray Cray Foley
August 31, 201312 yr Hi Cray, Yes. "Large" equals 4.5 in the Fsx.cfg. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! September 2, 201312 yr Author Rename the KSFO_ALT.BGL file to KSFO_ALT.bgl.off and restart the game and see if it helps. If so, you can go back and delete that file from the folder or just leave it there as it won't have an effect on anything, any more. It is strange, I deleted the file, and it did get rid of the grass, but I just discovered more mesh issues with KSFO on one of the runways. (See image) There is still small patch of grass on runway 1R Cray Foley
