August 24, 201312 yr Hello, I am having problems with KSFO airport textures. The runways are covered with grass. I have been trying to trouble shoot this problem since early July. I did have an add-on airport for KSFO and later deleted it from FSX due to bad frame rates, and now KSFO is a mess! I had my mesh resolution settings always around 38, but now in order to get rid of the grass on the runways, it has to be at 152. Is there a way to fix this? I prefer lower number settings for the mesh settings. Also, one of the terminals is having a problem and it is a light transparent blue at the bottom half and you can see through the terminal to the other side. (see pictures) I have been told some AI add ons may cause this and I do have Ultimate Traffic II and uninstalled it as a test, rebooted my computer but the mesh problem was still there. Cray Foley
August 24, 201312 yr You should download and run FSX Airport Scanner from ScruffyDuck - http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/filemanager/navega.php?id=2&PHPSESSID=443c353424de0eb9d4a3c08f41c43823. It looks for duplicate airports. A lot of addons are thrown into the Addon Scenery folder and there is no explanation as to what product the .bgl was made for. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim BTW, this is the CTD Forum. You probably should have posted in the FSX Forum but hopefully I have provided a solution to your problem. The only AI program that I know of that has AFCAD's or .bgls for many airports, including KSFO, is MyTrafficX. That file would have to be active in the Scenery Library though. August 25, 201312 yr Author Jim, Sorry, I was not sure where to place this question. Would you be able to place it in the correct forum? I don't have the capability in AVISM to move them. Thanks Cray Foley
August 25, 201312 yr Can't do it Cray. I have the ability to move stuff here to this forum but not out of this forum. You can repost your question in the FSX Forum. August 27, 201312 yr Author Jim, I was wondering, have you tried ScruffyDuck before for the kind of problem I am having and if it worked? I checked their site and in their blog, they state: "I have already had a number of folks reporting that they have a lot of duplicates and which one(s) should they delete. I have had some folks who have deleted files and then found they should not. So Scanners need a health warning. First duplicates are almost certainly not duplicates. I understand duplicate to mean the same. A duplicate file is one that contains the same information as another. In fact the chances of two files actually containing a duplicate airport is rather small." Cray Foley
August 28, 201312 yr have you tried ScruffyDuck before for the kind of problem I am having and if it worked? I guess a lot of people have deleted duplicate airports. I cannot see how they could have messed up with this program, but obviously, the developers at ScruffyDuck had to post a disclaimer of some sort. I have ran the program and have deleted airports in the past (they are still in the file that the program places the deleted files). I like the fact that the program reads an airport file (.bgl) and dissects it and tells you what's inside the file. I was hoping you could run the scanner and find KSFO AFCADS or files contain KSFO info. I was hoping maybe this program would give you some info whether or not leftovers are still on your computer system that you thought were deleted and might be causing your problems. There is obviously a problem with KSFO as shown in the image you provided. You should not have to reduce mesh resolution to 152. (As a recall several years ago I had FS Genesis mesh on my system that caused many airport runways to disappear underground but I believe all of those airports were fixed by Justin. I did run the Airport Scanner program a year or two ago and removed two .bgl's and they are still in the folder the program maintains for files that are removed so that you can return them back if things get bad or the files should not have been removed. They have a forum at FSdeveloper.com where you can get further discussions regarding this program. I would not delete any files that the program finds as duplicates or not needed or whatever. You should never do this no matter what program you are running. Have you ran the program? Did you see any duplicates? It does not do things automatically (delete things). Just run the program and see what it comes up with for KSFO. I just did a scan for KSFO using the program and I have in my Scenery/World/Scenery folder a file named KSFO_Alt_BGL. The report says the file is default terrain so I assume that means it is for the default installation. I have two other KSFO files and one is for MyTraffic and one is from FlightBeam KSFO. Does the "Alt" in the KSFO_Alt_bgl control the altitude? Maybe it was deleted by FlightBeam when you uninstalled the airport. If nothing else works and you cannot find a solution, your next alternative should be to run a repair. This means inserting the FSX Disk 1 and selecting the repair option. If you have SP1 and SP2, you will have to run SP1 again and select the Repair option. Same with SP2. Of course, if you have Acceleration (and no indication in your profile that you do have it installed), then you would just run the Acceleration program and select repair. Before repairing, I would back up the folder that contains your fsx.cfg (just copy the folder to a temporary folder). I would also copy the FSX folder containing the working Scenery.cfg (C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX). The purpose of the repair is to replace any file that was accidentally deleted or removed by another program. When you restart FSX, your fsx.cfg will be rebuilt and set back to the default. Your scenery.cfg will no longer contain any of your addon scenery. Your dll.xml will not have the entries that were made by various addons. After you run FSX once and maybe even go to KSFO and see if the problem is fixed, then, shutdown FSX and move those files you placed back to where they belong. Or, you can leave the new fsx.cfg, dll.xml, and scenery.cfg and reinstall any of the addons you own. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 28, 201312 yr Author Jim, No, I have not run the scanner yet. I had a concern when I saw that post from ScruffyDuck, but I will try it later this week. Thanks! Cray Cray Foley
August 28, 201312 yr Go into FSX/Scenery/Global/Scenery. Inside this folder you will find a BGL file for KSFO that is an apt elevation adjustment file. There should only be one file. Delete the file and your mesh will be normal at KSFO. Flightbeam will put elevation adjustment files in this directory and the uninstaller will not remove those for some reason. Played around with that same issue this weekend. Sean Sean Green
August 28, 201312 yr Thanks Sean. That's great info to know. I figured his problem had something to do with the ksfo_alt.bgl. Not too many people uninstalling FlightBeam's KSFO so I can see why the issue has not been seen (in the forums) before. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 29, 201312 yr Author Sean, I went into FSX/Scenery/Global/Scenery and the image below is what is in the file. Non of the files can be opened. Cray Foley
August 29, 201312 yr No that file is in the Scenery/World/Scenery folder. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 29, 201312 yr Author I double checked and it is the Global file. Below is what is in the World file. Cray Cray Foley
August 29, 201312 yr Author There appears to be only one KFSO file but the mesh issue is still there. Cray Foley
August 29, 201312 yr Rename the KSFO_ALT.BGL file to KSFO_ALT.bgl.off and restart the game and see if it helps. If so, you can go back and delete that file from the folder or just leave it there as it won't have an effect on anything, any more.
August 29, 201312 yr Why is mine in Scenery/World/Scenery and not in the Global directory??? Weird. I never moved it there and I installed FlightBeams KSFO too. Really strange stuff....
