August 25, 201312 yr I notice that there are 240 guests viewing the forums at present, according to the display at the bottom of the main forum window. That was how it used to be for me. I didn't used to have to be logged in unless I wanted to post something, and it was convenient that way. Now the only forum I can see as a guest is the one called "Welcome Guests" but nothing more. So why can some people view as guests, and some can't?
August 25, 201312 yr Now the only forum I can see as a guest is the one called "Welcome Guests" but nothing more. Same for me - but it did not used to be that way. Maybe the change in policy was due to hacking or other abuse - I know other web sites that had to resort to registering (including ours) to deter hacking. An unfortunate statement on the level of integrity of others. And - a particular shame that guests cannot see the site since there is a huge amount of valuable information to be had here. August 25, 201312 yr Guests can't see any more than you were able to see. They can see that one forum entry and they can read the front page and articles. All of those are counted as Guests and that does not indicate they have greater access than you did (which they don't). We implemented the "must register" policy because of system resources being consumed, the spammers trying to take advantage of our open door policy and the hackers previously mentioned. It is not a policy we are going to change in the foreseeable future.
August 25, 201312 yr Tom, I think we need to consider the wall of shame to expose the people causing all these problems to the entire flight simulation community. I think they'd be shocked if they knew how many of these speed issues were caused by a few in our hobby.
