August 28, 201312 yr Hello friends, I've been absent from the hobby for a few years, but interested in returning.... I have read the software/hardware guide several times. And so Iam in need of a newer rig.... I've been looking at what Alienware has to offer as I'm not so technically savy. I'm looking at a quad core i7 with 16 gb if ram and a 1.5 gb Gpu .... What are your thoughts ? I would really appreciate some advice.... Thank you so much !!!!! Ron Savage
August 28, 201312 yr Key points to keep in mind always when it comes to FSX machine: CPU is everything, the higher frequency the better; that means for an improved performance, one can expect to overclock existing CPUs to at least 4GHz GPU is comparatively less significant to CPU, but some may argue is also plays a crucial part RAM supports CPU (I don't want to get down to the details, nor do I know a great deal about it) Cooling of the CPU is very important, as it follows point 1 about overclocking So I guess with whatever options you're looking at, focus on the overclockability of the machine or whether it has already been OC to minimum of 4.0GHz, to be safe, 4.2GHz. Certainly, the higher the better. Different people has different opinions, but that's my 2c. Have fun! Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
August 28, 201312 yr Author Thx fot your reply Brenchen ! Would this be sufficient for decent results ?
August 28, 201312 yr Author Decent to me is 25 + frames in high settings .... I mostly use pmdg products as well as active sky and 3rd party scenery .... So ultimately I would like performance to be smooth in the most complex areas ....

And, besides, Alienware is owned by Dell now. Enough said. Give Cyberpower a visit. The array of options can be dizzying, but, if you just stick with their default setups, you'll be fine. I picked a Zeus 2500 Thunder a while back to get my 3770k rig. I took the liberty of tweaking some of the options, but the way they had it configured would have been fine. I'd compare the process to car shopping. Once you decide you want a Mercedes, you pick the trim level. If you decide you like the performance, options and look of the E350, you can stop there. If you want to get a little fancy, go ahead and add some more bells and whistles. Or, if you're like me, you just say, "what the hell, you only live once!" and you go with the S63 AMG and call it a day. . Either way, have fun.
August 28, 201312 yr I second the opinion above to avoid Alienware based on cost and cost alone. Shop around and you will get a far better deal. Consider a local pc shop even. Have you thought about building a pc yourself? It gives you a lot more flexibilty in choosing your components and more control over the cost. It's really not that hard to put a pc together yourself and once done you'll have a sense of accomplishment knowing you built it. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
August 28, 201312 yr Author Those look great ! However I live in Canada ... I understand they don't currently ship outside the US :(
August 28, 201312 yr don't go with Alienware, overpriced all the way....Checkout Digital Storm, could be a bit pricy, but have some good machines, and Cyber power as well.
