September 4, 201312 yr I'm really enjoying the new 777 and have the NGX and just have a question. I was doing a flight from LAX to SFO and after takeoff the first waypoint is a vector and then you make a turn to the next waypoint which is 32 nm away. In the NGX when I get within 3 nm of the next waypoint after a vector and I can switch back to LNAV and continue as before but in the 777 it never switches to the next waypoint even when I get to 0 nm away it just stays on the vector. I looked in the tutorial but it doesn't cover this so I thought I'd post this here. Brandon Sherzer

September 4, 201312 yr Commercial Member Additionally, I've got money on it being one of the LAX SIDs that nobody flies correctly because they expect the FMC to run all the magic. Make sure to take a look at the chart to help decipher why the VECTORS leg is there. Furthermore, this is NOT the NGX. Have a look at the Intro Manual. NGX knowledge is almost a disadvantage because it makes you complacent that you "know Boeing - and a Boeing is a Boeing," but it really isn't. The Intro will solve a lot of those frustrations before they even happen. Kyle Rodgers

September 4, 201312 yr Huh? The most common pilot deviation on Vatsim in ZLA is people butchering the SIDS at LAX, especially the LOOP. Pilots love to hit LNAV off the ground, which turns you right to LAX immediately (and head on with the SADDE arrivals from the North). The excuse is always "Well my FMC turned me..." I was just saying that it's always been that way, and probably always will be. Steve Caffey

I still remember flying out of KLAX years ago (maybe 4 or so), and this controller (he had a British accent) asking this pilot, in very terse terms, "why in the world are you turning RIGHT on the LOOP departure"?? I still get a chuckle thinking about it. Ron Priever

Luckily we don't have much of that, though the CAP8 out of IAD gets its share of magenta liners cutting across my final with a response of: "You do realize that when I say 'fly heading 360 after departure,' that means keep flying it until I tell you otherwise, yes?" Being at LAX and JFK (both with interesting SIDs that people always mess up), where all the noobs go has got to be frustrating! (^^^generic commentary - I was not suggesting the OP is a noob!)
