MSFS addon pirate caught by PSS

Featured Replies

Good catch, Owen ... but surely, there are legal implications to publishing an individual's email address without permission? Particularly in Germany ... was it really necessary to name him, rather than simply write to him privately and make public only that your system works?I may be being pedantic and overly influenced by the predominance of unnecessary litigation in the country I happen to live in, but I thought I would comment nevertheless. I don't agree with piracy any more than the next man, but PSS has a good reputation as a professional outfit rather than "namer and shamer", surely?Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

I agree with everything Mark says. PSS must have a rock solid system if they are so sure of the fact that this person indeed shared his download willingly. I can think of a number of ways ranging from a little brother to having an unsecure computer that can also cause files to show up where they shouldn

Lets make sure I get this clear in my head, so there is no misunderstanding.>was it really necessary to name him, >rather than simply write to him privately >and make public only that your system works? This guy who is identified in the post linked above, has acted to sabotage a legitimate commercial design endeavour by PSS, sabotaging a huge design effort entailing several thousand hours of hard work on their part by his illegal redistribution of a personally Licensed copy of a Copyright product. Should there be no implications whatsoever for these dishonest individuals caught stealing ? I mean ... were they given permission to steal ? So far, there have been no consequences for those people caught stealing.Look, we are talking about theft here, not about an inappropriate romantic notion of pirates roaming the high seas. Perhaps developers have genuinely erred to date by conservatively keeping confidential the names of those dishonest people who have been detected either redistributing, or using, redistributed Licenses and Copyright software. Maybe the dishonest people really do deserve to stand in the spotlight for a while. I really don't know for sure but I know I have a list of 207 names of people caught doing the same damn thing. What I do know is that the only people who have stood in the spotligt are the developers seeking to remain viable in the face of outrageous levels of dishonesty perpetrated by the likes of the fellow identified in that discussion.http://www.fsd-international.com/team/Steve_signature.gif

Not impressed. Should have been taken care of by a phone call or private email or something. I'm also not sure if they can terminate the license/membership like that without going through any legal procedures first.

>To publish an individuals name and e-mail is not a business>method that impresses me.Indeed. Shabby stuff.

ABSOLUTELEY POSITIVE that the files uploaded originated from Mr "german Friend" without ANY DOUBT WHATSOEVER.. And if there are legal implications to publishing a criminals Email address then he can sue me .... Fair ?:)

I'm not sure I believe what I'm reading here. This sort of "trash" post has no business here or on any public website. I hope that PSS has ALL the evidence necessary to prove this allegation. There are many ways that any file on any computer can find it's way anywhere on the internet. And all that without the owner of the originating computer even being aware that's it has happened. This post goes way outside the bounds of reason (and possibly legality) and I hope that Tom or one of the mods will delete all references to this situation on both forums. Let the PSS gang take the issue to the courts if they wish but do not let these unproven allegations appear here.Doug

"I really don't know for sure but I know I have a list of 207 names of people caught doing the same damn thing."That's all well and good, just as long as the accuser has proven intent and followed due process. But many "injured" parties (read: commercial developers) shoot from the hip... simply making accusations without following thru with the required proof of intent and due process.Perhaps PSS did indeed prove intent and then followed due process. If so, it would be nice to see evidence of their due dilligence. But to simply make a claim against another and then post that persons identity in public brings with it a huge liability. Caution is the keyword here... PSS (and others making claims) should make sure all the "i"'s are dotted and "t"'s are crossed before making such info public.Simply put, this is not the sort of thing that should be brought before the public before a claim is proven in and accepted by a court.Regards,Greg

Okay, I'm locking this thread before it becomes a shouting match...we are looking into the situation.Thank you to all concerned.

Isn't it illegal to remove his downloads of products he has already purchased?Banning and not allowing him website permissions any longer is one thing, but removing his downloads of previously purchased products seems strange.Sort of like being caught stealing a DVD from a store and then having all the DVDs you purchased there legally, repossesed.??

I take it you're from the US? If so you may not be familiar with the tangled web of directives and laws set by the EU. If you do live in the EU you should be familiar with them already. Anyway if he does decide to sue he has good changes of pulling that off and you would appear as the "bad guys".

Hi Steve,>Should there be no implications whatsoever for these dishonest>individuals caught stealing ? According to the PSS post:>We thank you for bringing this act of Piracy to our attention and would >like to add that you will now be Barred from the PSS Website, your >membership has been cancelled and all purchased files have been removed >from your account.Looks to me that PSS has taken actions to make sure thief has paid for his dishonesty. Hey, take legal action against him, I don't care. But to publish his email address and invite the community at large to get in touch with him shows a level of meanness on the part of PSS that I haven't seen before here in this hobby. I have no problem whatsoever with prosecuting the guilty, but please have some class while doing it!PSS has lost a potential customer as I certainly won't buy one of their products now.Warm Regards,Paul
