My Traffic 06

Featured Replies

Is there an easy way to change the plane textures. I tried to read their manuels but could not get it. I want to use textures from Ardvark or TFS etc. I thought it would be as easy as decompiling their traffic file and change the aircraft titles to the ones with AIA or TFS then recompiling again but it does not work. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have never used MyTraffic, but the method you descsribe should work as far as editing the traffic.bgl file is concerned.

Exactly what does not "work" ?

Textures are specifically designed for a specfic model. Hence, it is not possible to use e.g. aardvark textures with MyTraffic models or otherwise you would have to be very lucky. You can, however, replace the MyTraffic model + texture with a complete set from Aardvark or WorldOfAi, although I never did that personally. In general, I would suggest to you using World of Ai for everything AI since MyTraffic 2006 is aged. Also, you may have a look at Global AI Traffic (which I think is based upon WoAI).

so here is my problem which I heard a couple of other simmers have as well. I use mostly AIG traffic plans mixed with WoA  some UTT and others . I get very few planes landing only taxiing and taking off. So I thought I would get around this problem by installing MT using their plans but with Ardvark and TFS and other models and textures. As I said I decompiled their traffic bgl and redid the aircraft file pointing to the other textures and models bypassing the MT planes then recompiled. Under normal circumstances this should of worked but when FS9 turned on no planes showed up at the airports. So I am a bit frustrated..................I am surprised nobody on the FS9 baord has worked with MT as far as changing textures.

What % do you have your AI slider at?

can you post the fltsim.x entries of the aardvark aircraft

are you sure you are using EXACTLY the same entries in the aircraft.txt file and the "title=" line ?

Are you checking arrival/departure times +/- 1 hour from when you expect the aircraft to arrive/depart.

All times in TTools are GMT ....are you aware of that?

If you decompile the traffic.bgl again, have your changes been recognised or has it reverted back to the original?

Further.....

If you use TTools to compile your plans, and you have the @ symbol for arrival , you need to make sure the aircraft.txt file has a cruise speed of 200 knots for jet aircraft (use lower for props)

Peter Schluter

If you continue to use the given MT flightplans, the "200 kts problem" should not be your problem. I once did a similar conversion (replaced MT planes by DJC, AIA, TFS etc.etc. models and textures) and this worked fine.  So

this is what I would ask, too. Furthermore, check if the [fltsim.x]in the aircraft.cfg files entries have strictly sequential numbers instead of "x". And are you sure that MT's traffic.bgl is active at all?

This response is to GeyerH: If you were able to incorporate DJC AIA TFS models and textures etc successfully into MT2006 could you please walk me through step by step what you did so that I can see where I went wrong. What I did was virgin install which gave me 6 traffic files in world scenery. These of course were MYTraffic-cargo,-closed,-line,-mil,-own and -global. I decompiled Mytrafficown.bgl  by first having to add traffic. in front of the bgl title. This then gave me the aircraft, airports and flightplans. I changed all aircrafts I wanted and the titles were all correct. I recompiled and ttools left me with MYTraffic.bgl as opposed to MYTrafficown as I started with. So to make it as I thought it should be I changed the name to MYTrafficown.bgl and erased the original. I tried a number of these combinations but I still see no aircraft on the airports.....So please walk me through what you did. Thanks

Hi, will try a step-by-step description:

1. I believe to have owned an earlier version, MT 2005 (?, the first version developed for FS2004) or even another product. But this should make no difference because the procedure should be the same. After installing it, it came just with one traffic file (bgl), but this should make no difference, too.

2. I decompiled the traffic.bgl and got aircraft.txt, airports.txt and flightplans.txt.

3. I downloaded the needed models and textures. I installed the textures into the models, while I created my own system to name the planes and paints.
I then checked my aircraft.cfg files this way: I changed the Aircraft type in the .air file from "2" to "0" via AirEd and looked if I saw all my new repaints in the select aircraft menue of FS2004. If one repaint was not visible, I corrected the [fltsim.x] entry. A mistake I made quite often was to have an incorrect sequence of the numbering of the entries; no repaints after an incorrect sequenced entry will show up. But there is a little tool that numbers them correctly ("FSRenum.exe").
Then I changed the Aircraft type back to "2" which makes the models invisible in the menue.

4. I replaced the plane designations in aircraft.txt by these from my new models (line "title=" in aicraft.cfg).

5. I recompiled the traffic file; Traffic Tools overwrote traffic.bgl (which I had made a backup from first) and the new traffic showed up without problems.

So far I can see no difference to what you did excepting one point: If I rename a traffic.bgl to "Traffic_Mytrafficown.bgl" and decompile it, I get "Aircraft_Mytrafficown.txt", "Airports_Mytrafficown.txt" and "FlightPlans_Mytrafficown.txt". If I recompile them, I get a new "Traffic_Mytrafficown.bgl", while you write that you didn't. So far I don't know why. I tested this with several combinations (with and without "_", capitals, small letters) and TTools compiles always a .bgl file with exactly the naming of the corresponding .txt files.
I can only guess that either your copy of TTools is corrupted/produces a corrupted traffic.bgl file or - if you have Vista or Win7 - there is a problem with the OS not letting TTools write a correct .bgl file. The method above was made under WinXP, which I still own so that I cannot tell you how TTools reacts under Vista or Win7.

By the way, I later replaced the MT flightplanes with flightplans from WOAI, UTT, AIG... just the opposite of you; and I never realized a lack of landing, taxiing, parking and departing planes. Did you edit and compile their flightplans or did you use "ready made" .bgl files?

After you compiled your traffic file and started FS2004, did FS2004 build a new scenery database?

I hope that my post was at least a little helpful

Harald thanks for taking the time..............It was indeed helpful....But my problem still exists. Theoretically when I decompiled mytrafficown it should of had 3 .txts aircraft.mytrafficown airports.mytrafficown etc but it came out only aircraft, airports and flightplans, so when it compiled it did so as mytraffic.bgl. But still what I dont get is if I change the titles in the aircraft and recompile it should work. Sure if one or two planes are out of sequence then they wont show up but all?

Now on a different note. I would rather use the AIG UTT and other traffic plans since I spend more time on AI then I do flying. In this regard I see all the right traffic on the ground though some for some reason dont conform to afcad parking. The problem is there is no traffic in the sky landing. I have my slider up to 100% AI. Could the problem be how I install the plan? What I do is open the plan take the aircraft airport and flightplan texts and copy them into ttools. I fill the right titles into the aircraft and then recompile. It always gives me a successful traffic file with taxiing and taking off but no landings even after waiting 10-15 minutes. Now I also have older traffic plans that self installed without me compiling via ttools and these seem to work fine with landings. I tried changing the speeds in aircraft to 200 for jet and less for prop and that does not help. Any other suggestions like maybe another install program that would bypass ttools? I remember MRAI had a nice install program like woa. are there any pthers you can suggest?   Thanks

it should of had 3 .txts aircraft.mytrafficown airports.mytrafficown

I realize that you write "aircraft[dot]mytrafficown". Perhaps TTools don't tolerate a "dot" within the filename? Try to replace it by a "_"... I still think that your TTools don't compile the .bgl correctly.

I can't see something incorrect in your way to edit traffic files and to compile them (I did it exactly so). When all aircrafts show up at the gates then at least your aircraft.txt has the correct aircraft designations. Maybe the speeds are the problem, but honestly speaking, I never had the "200 kts problem". My planes land, taxi and depart well although I have defined much higher speeds, for instance 450 kts for the A32X series and 440 kts for the 737NG. Most of my flightplans have the "@" sign before the arrivaI time. I have no original WOAI or MRAI traffic file, but all my traffic is compiled to an own traffic.bgl via TTools.

To all that gave imput ...thanks...I guess I will just have to enjoy the amt of landings I get no matter how sparce and appreciate not having to wait in a line up to land LOL
