@firehawk44 :  I noticed this from a post of yours July 4, 2013: After it closes down, I'll get the error message that FSX had a problem and had to shutdown (I'm thinking, okay, well I already did that).  I know exactly what causes these not really "crashes".  I have two monitors, a 30 inch and a 22 inch secondary monitor.  If I close FSX in full screen mode, the crash (or error message) will come up.  If I change to Windowed Mode just before shutting down, no error message.  So I have to make sure I shutdown FSX in Windowed Mode.  A common faulting module for a BEX crash is the StackHash which, in laymen's terms, means something is stuck in memory.

Jim, this is what I am seeing as well expect I start in windowed mode and shut down in windowed mode. Any ideas? All dotnets up to date through 4.5.

BEX also means that there is a piece of data trying to be assigned to a certain memory space but the memory space is too small to recieve it. What addon were you using at the time?

The Uiautomationcore.dll only fixes crashes when you repeatedly hit the FSX Menu screen.

Yes, that's correct.  Hopefully it will work for you too.  Originally I reinstalled Windows and FSX to fix my problem but found out that if I start up in Windowed Mode, I need to shut down in Windowed Mode with multiple monitors.

You should also download and run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html as it provides more information about a crash and interprets the Windows crash reports.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jim

Interestingly I just did the default flight and then shut it down and did not get the BEX error. I think the next course is to maybe do into dll.xml and activate one at a time to see which one is not being released from memory?

That's really strange.  Your Microsoft Visuals C++ 2005, 2008, and 2010 are up-to-date.  PMDG uses the 2010 version.  I suggest you take the ENB mod (or SweetFX) mod out of your main FSX Directory - LoadedModule[75]=D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\d3d9.dll, and see if that fixes the problem.  From my understanding, StackHash crashes are essentially memory stuck in one place and you're trying to do something else with the address (in your case 27eb)(Sig[3].Value=StackHash_27eb).  Very difficult to track down and fix.

Make sure your dll.xml is not corrupted.  I use NotePad++ (Google) which makes it easier to edit than just the plain ole Notepad.  I had some entries showing software previously deleted.  I removed those and that fixed a ntdll.dll CTD.

If you do not fix your issue by disabling a dll.xml option one at a time, then try disabling all of your AddonScenery, run fsx and see if the problem still exists.  It could be one of your addon scenery creating havoc too.

The last module to load was the AES security dll.  You might check that installation too.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

Found the cause!! 5 hours of working on it but I was not defeated!!! Your comment about something not being released from memory set me on the right path. Turns out, FSCopilot which is part of FSINN was running in the system tray. It used to always shut down on its own when I closed FSX. For some reason it was now hanging. So all I do now is right click on it, shut it down and then close FSX. No more BEX CTD's

Jim ,see my message just above this one. Solved it. Rather very odd that something with FSINN was causing this but nevertheless.....

Eric

Great news Eric!  I was getting ready to mention something about FSInn/FSCoPilot as they are known to have problems if not properly configured.  I saw the entries in your crash report but don't recall them associated with the StackHash CTD.

Best regards,

Jim
