September 21, 201312 yr I am not seeing any airplanes on the ground at airports. I have never owned any air traffic add-ons. I have my Air Traffic Density set to 30%, General Aviation Density set to 30%, and Airport Vehicle Density set to Medium. I am running under DX9 and own a number of Orbx sceneries and airports. Am currently running UTX and FSXG textures. Is there some setting or something that I am forgetting to do? What I have done to date to try to debug this problem so far: (1) Made sure there weren't multiple trafficaircraft.bgl files. (2) Tested if trafficaircraft.bgl file is corrupt, by installed a fresh version of FSX on another computer and replacing the file. (3) Went into my scenery library and unchecked all add-ons thinking they might be interfering with airplanes. This is very frustrating. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.
September 21, 201312 yr At 30% it really depends on the airport and time of day. For instance I I frequently fly out of 06C and 3CK, which is west of KORD and there are times when I am the only aircraft on the field. As a test you can try upping the percentage, or a different time of day. Beyond that I would suggest adding some flights via WOAI, or one of the commercial AI products such as UT2, or MyTraffic Pro, etc. Also, try checking to see if there are any aircraft flying by looking under Views in the menu. There should be an option listed as "Aircraft" or some such, which will should you the AI aircraft that FSX has loaded. Ernie
September 21, 201312 yr A FS9 file somewhere? Good chance if there is that it would be in \Scenery\World\scenery or Scenery\Global\scenery. Do you have any road/boat traffic? Set both to 100% and start at PDX. You should have traffic on the highways and byways around the airport.
September 21, 201312 yr Author Thanks for your replies. airernie. I have previously tried the percentages at 60%, but no joy. meshman. I have never had FS9 installed on my computer. Is it possible there are some rouge files on my machine? Any other ideas?
September 21, 201312 yr What you describe sounds pretty much like some FS9 traffic.bgl sitting in your FSX install. FS9 traffic files can come with some addons, so you don't need to have FS9 installed on your computer. Sometimes they can be installed without your knowledge, possibly with some scenery addon that has its own traffic. It could also be possible that you installed some FS9 files from some freeware AI packages such as WOAI or Military AI Works. Do you know if this started to happen after you installed any scenery (or a traffic addon)? That one might be the culprit. Florian
September 21, 201312 yr Start up FSX and go to KSNA, KORD, KJFK or other busy airport. Give it a moment then select "View", then "New View", then "Air Traffic" from the menu. If your traffic files are working correctly you should see a list of aircraft. If no traffic appears then first check and make sure that "trafficAircraft.bgl" resides in your FSX\Scenery\World\Scenery directory. If not, there's your problem. If it does then download AI Flight Planner and unzip it to a directory (no installation necessary). It's free so no cost. Allow it to do its thing, select "Files", then "Convert FS9 Traffic Files to FSX". Point it to FSX\Scenery\World, then click on the "Use Selected/Checked" button. If it finds any FS9 traffic files it will convert, if it doesn't then you're good to go. If the above doesn't solve your problem then you're back to my original message. Ernie
September 21, 201312 yr Author Ernie Thanks so much for taking the time to provide an answer. I did all of your suggestions. The trafficAircraft.bgl file was in the correct library. I ran the AI Flight Planner program and it found no FS9 files. That is a good program to know about. I then went to KJFK and yes I could see airplanes on the ground, but very few. Thanks so much for helping me out on this one. Hope your efforts can also help out some other questioning souls in the FSX world. Or maybe I am the only one who this has happened to...although I doubt that. Once again, thanks.
