Unable to start-up engines

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I have ACOF FS2004 version and recently got a virus in my computer and I believe I have accidentally removed a file or maybe more files from MS FS2004. I am unable to start the engines whenever I press the Ctrl+E keys. Only if I press the "Y" key, bring the plane to a high altitude and then press the "Y" key again, then, the engines will start. I used to bring the view of my aircraft either, higher or lower by pressing Shift+backspace or Shift+Enter, however, that command doesn't work either. Can someone tell me how do I recover those commands without having to un install FS, as I have hundreds of add-ons that I don't want to loose, Hopefully the solution will be by replacing the mystery missing files from either of the 4 discs. If so, which one and how to extract it. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Y is the slew key.

Looks like your key assignments have been spoiled somehow.

I suggest you delete (or rename) your FS9.cfg after making a copy.

This way the default key assignments will be restored.

The other possibility is that your mixture setting is wrong (which only applies to combustion engines, not to jets).

To reset Mixture to lean try Ctrl-Shift-F4.

Thanks for your reply. Apparently the second suggestion does not work. I just uploaded a Lockheed L-188 Electra by JR Lucariny and the engines won't start by doing the CTRL+Shift+F4. My A330-200 by CLS doesn't start either. I will try doing the FS9.cfg by changing to FS9.cfg1.

However, I have a question: Are you suggesting to make a copy of the current Flight Simulator9 file?. It is a HUGE file.

hello

No you dont need to make a backup or copy of the WHOLE fs9 file. Just a copy of the fs9 cfg file, then delete the original. You then re-start Fs9.It will automatically create a new fs9 cfg.

There is  another simpler alternative to the above procedure.Open fs9 as usual. Go to the settings and  look for ASSIGNMENTS. Check the option to reset  to the default .This MAY! solve your engine problem. If not THEN try the FS9 cfg trick.

The first thing to look at is your keyboard assignments.  Go to Options/Controls/Assignments (as I remember) and look for Engine Auto Start, or whatever it's called on the list.  If Ctrl-E is not listed next to it, click Change Assignment and press Ctrl-E to re-assign that command.

I would first search for Ctrl-E, as it might be easier to find (if already assigned as usual) than some unknown word phrase.  If not found, then search for the Auto Start listing.

Hope this helps,

Dear Andy and Tom,

Both of you resolved my problem. I don't know why in the past 11 yrs of using Flight Simulator I couldn't think of the most elementary step! RESET!. Thanks for making my day. I knew I had to ask the experts for an answer and you both did!. Thanks again
