September 23, 201312 yr Why is it that When I enter distances for a fix, my framerate drops significantly? This also happens in the NGX, I was just wondering what could the fix page distances do in the background to cause such a drop in performance? David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
September 23, 201312 yr I've tested this on the NGX when it was first reported and I never noticed a drop in FPS. I'm on the way to LAX in the T7 right now like your picture and entered the fix with at KLAX with 100/25/10nm rings and no drop either. Was getting 40-45FPS and still getting 40-45FPS. I also have my ETOPs EEP and EXP in the fixes as well. -Raven HarrisIntel i7 980X @ 4.43GHz | ASUS Rampage III | Corsair 6GB DDR3 2000MHz | 3 EVGA GTX280 | Corsair 1200 Watt | Intel 510 SSD (RAID 0)PMDG - 747-400/8iF | MD11/F | BAe J41 | 737NG 6/7/8/9 Hope ER/BBJ|777LR/FFlight1- Cessna Mustang

September 24, 201312 yr Just did it two times. First time I was getting 30-35FPS and didn't drop, if anything maybe 2-3 frames, but that could be a lot of other variables within the sim or PC. I waited a bit until my FPS were 40-45 again and no drop at all not even a 2-3 frame drop from the prior lowest frame counted. I do think something is up as a lot of people reported this but I don't think its effecting all users. I like to see some solid testing, say find a locked FPS that the sim can hold steady in a area where not a lot of variables are in play and then drop the fix in and see if it then can't hold the once steady frames. I wouldn't worry really unless it made shutters, as long as it looks smooth I'd not take note. Clearing the LAX fix out I reentered my ETOPs airports UOHH and CYRB with 1217nm rings and the first one I did I noticed a very very brief drop from 40's to lower 30's, but it bounced right back into the 40's within under a second. -Raven HarrisIntel i7 980X @ 4.43GHz | ASUS Rampage III | Corsair 6GB DDR3 2000MHz | 3 EVGA GTX280 | Corsair 1200 Watt | Intel 510 SSD (RAID 0)PMDG - 747-400/8iF | MD11/F | BAe J41 | 737NG 6/7/8/9 Hope ER/BBJ|777LR/FFlight1- Cessna Mustang
September 24, 201312 yr Author It only happens when green dashed rings are visible on the ND. Maybe it has to do with Anti-aliasing? David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
September 24, 201312 yr It only happens when green dashed rings are visible on the ND. Maybe it has to do with Anti-aliasing? Yeah, I was in PLAN mode looking ahead at the rings being drawn. I'm running NVIDIA inspector from Ryan's tutorial with I think 4 or 8 level AA. EDIT: I did do all the setting but the locked FPS in the NVIDA inspector and also unlimited in FSX. -Raven HarrisIntel i7 980X @ 4.43GHz | ASUS Rampage III | Corsair 6GB DDR3 2000MHz | 3 EVGA GTX280 | Corsair 1200 Watt | Intel 510 SSD (RAID 0)PMDG - 747-400/8iF | MD11/F | BAe J41 | 737NG 6/7/8/9 Hope ER/BBJ|777LR/FFlight1- Cessna Mustang
September 24, 201312 yr Author It has to do with the distance you entered, the bigger the distance the less frame rate. I tried /2000 and my frames dropped to 15-17 instantly. David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
January 7, 201412 yr Hi, Yes I have the same problem with fixes.it's very clear and obvious when you enter two circle in the fix page and set the distance for each fix to overlap each other and then set zoom level somewhere between 10 (min) and 20 nm. for me it is not necessary to see both fix in nd to bring up such impact. January 7, 201412 yr There was a problem with this in the NGX as well. I have not noticed it myself though. Anyway, if I remember correctly, on the NGX it helped to not put both distance and bearing on one line in the Fix page. Instead use two lines. One for bearing/..... and another line for ...../distance. Rob Robson
February 15, 201412 yr i have the same FPS drop (from 42 to 29 fps) using distance on fix page Michael Michael Moe
February 16, 201412 yr You guys/gals that are running unbridled frame rates, are you getting smooth flights? I was under the impression that FSX likes a fixed frame rate. I run mine fixed at 24 fps, smooth as glass at EDDF, PMDG 737 NGX/PMDG 777, OpusFSX and 99% AI traffic. Ric Elmore

February 18, 201412 yr Smooth as Glass with DX10 and unlimited FPS but stay away from FIX Page Michael DX10 is not an option for me, not willing to give up certain addons. In my opinion, DX10 is a treatment, not a cure. The problems are still there, but DX10 just adds headroom. I want to know how it is working for you guys/gals in DX9. Ric Elmore
