One Thing Stopping Me From Getting X-Plane 10

Featured Replies

This is the only thing stopping me from buying it, the sound. I have been fiddling around with the demo for about a week now, I really do like the sim, but the engine sounds are appalling! I've been trying different freeware aircraft sounds etc but it still sounds just awful. Is there any sort of fix for this? New sound engine? Or at least an enhanced one. If there is, it's a definite purchase for me ;) Any ideas?

$$$$$Payware always has the best sounds.

Add-ons like the JRollon CRJ-200 have some sounds made by TSS.

DreamFoil Creation add-ons have also great sounds (I bought their AS350 B3+ and the Jetranger Bell 206), as well as new Carenado planes. They're using their own sound engine, I guess it's inside SASL.

The latest Saab from X-Aviation has a custom 3D sound engine listed in the features.

Yes have the same "thing" with Sound in XP.

The sim needs a new Sound engine.

Output must be 5,1 or 7,1

Multi Channel in the sim and use of "HD" Sound.

Was hopeing that XP was build with a LEGO blok structure.

So in version 10.30 a complet new Sound engine

In version 10.40 a complet new cloud/weather engine.

In version 10.50 .......

.

An so on..

This Way LR can target one thing at a time and we dont have to wait for a complete new sim "XP11"

Thank you very much for all the references. I have spent the last 2 hours on YouTube watching X-Plane payware add-on videos. They definitely sound a lot better. It's still not as good sounding as some FSX add-ons but a definite improvement! Is there anything else you might suggest? I think I may get XP now, still not 100% though.

The default sounds in both sims are crappy. Most of the newer crop of payware aircraft come with their own sound suite. FJS, X-Aviation, Carenado, VMax .. etc.

I think STMA do as well .. but can't be sure ...

5.1 or 7.1 in a default, out of the box flight sim??

To date, I don't think ANY flight sim has that.

FSX B)

Can you show me where it says that it officially works with a 5.1 system?

I can run X-Plane through a 5.1 system and get it to work.  Doesn't make it legit.

I would think the box would mention something about it being a 5.1.  Can't find it anywhere on the Deluxe edition.

I can appreciate your emphatic response, but I need a little more than just your word.

Until I can see something official from Microsoft or Aces, I'm afraid 5.1 or 7.1 is not officially supported in FSX.

5.1 support is not something you leave off the packaging of a product. It's quite a big selling point.

You could always load up an airplane and convince yourself

I already have. Doesn't sound like 5.1 to me.

Anyway, back on topic.

EDIT: I researched this a bit more and found that FSX is NOT capable of true 5.1 or 7.1 sound (assigning different audio files to different channels.)

So although it can be run through a 5.1 system, it is not a true 5.1 experience.
